As we know, the collectors scattered about the landscape are for the most part useless.
How do you think the Dev's can make them more [realistically] interesting and useful?
My suggestions:
1. Better loot exchange
- Minor armor and weapon upgrades
- Potions of different kinds (temporary boosts to Strength, Energy, Amor, Spells)
- Gold exchange option
2. Create mini Quests where items can be exchange for pieces of a treasure map or to secret locations
3. Offer a "Joke of the Day" option
Collector's - Future Options

I think is a very nice idea

No potions please, not ever. The introduction of potions would mean forcing everyone to grind for them to remain competitive in PvP, because those with potions will have an advantage over those without.
Thus you'd introduce a grind to get an edge over your opponent, which is exactly what this game claims it tries to prevent.
I like the charr hides for furs sort of option - ways to get rare materials other than salvaging. I'd also appreciate if the weapons/offhand items given by collectors could be salvaged - this just to allow players to try to salvage off upgrades.
Finally the collectors might benefit from having the sort of interface a crafter has, so even when you have enough collectables to trade for something, you can still inspect the options (and generally looks much better than the extensive dialog currently used).

The idea of trading rare salavage is good. Also in the higher lands, like desert or maybe as far as near lion's arch they should offer runes or item upgrades for items. I think I've only used the collectors once in my entire time just for 1 part of my armor. I do agree no potions.

I've actually made good use of all the collectors that offer armor pieces. The armor they offer isn't the best, but as you progress through PVE you can save many by using collectable armor instead of buying it yourself.

Shouldnt this be in sardelic sancterium, however u spell it?

Love the mini-quest/map pieces item.
Not opposed to potions (like others).
Excellent ideas overall.

Collectors? Useless? No way, not for casters at least.

My ideas:
Nothing that affects PvP in a meaningful way, or people will complain even more about "grind." This includes potions.
Not gold. There's alredy a huge problem with gold inflation >_>;
Appearance-customizing items, unique-looking armor and weapons, ect. Stuff to show off that doesn't affect gameplay. Meaning, the items should be decent, but not so good that everyone farms the collector. Perhaps Dyes as well.
Rare crafting materals in decent amounts. Make the number of items required for these high to keep the crafting materal from losing its value.
Temporary but potent buffs. The requirement (in items you must trade) would be very low, 1-2 items, and they would cast a buff on you that lasts until you leave the area. Keep these collectors near very challenging areas so they're useful -- but don't make the amount of items you must trade too high or no one will use them.
