all of them are good, it just depends on your play style, don't let anyone tell you how to play your class(es), the way you play is all up to you!

Played:

R/E (fire)
R/E (lightning)
R/Me (Dom)
W/Mo (pally)
N/R (Curse)
Mo/E (divine)

They were all a blast, but my fav. so far is the R/Me.

it's all a matter of preference really...if u don't like a char you make you can always delete it.

Warrior/Monk should be an ok starter character.

In general I've found the following to work well when starting out:
Warriors, Necros, Monks.

In my opinion Rangers are currently underpowered and useless in this game. As for Mesmers - they mostly make a good combo with Mes/Nec, though I prefer a Nec/Mes instead.

ha, after finishing game with N/Me playing Ranger is 10x easier, I think though that ranger player has not much to chose from: dmg dealer (shock sniper and so on), interrupter and trapper. Good thing is that all these builds are good for PvP unlike necro...

Ranger's Pet sucks so much later in the game - not worth occupying slots, 0 in beast mastery.

Every profession is "good". Any proffesion mixed with another proffession is "good" as long as its built and played right. You will come across tons of builds with any 2 proffesions you pick. It will also be easier to see what you want to play once you get the game and play around with all the professions. Its always better to find out for yourself then ask another person, so go experiment.

Correct. There is no "best" profession (or profesion combo). Although in theory there is a advantagously imbalenced profession combo, but it's impossible to determine, and would stil lbe easily counterable by another combo.

I find mesmers and necromancers aren't the best for a new player actually (lots of conditional skills, not much healing ability, rather low armor, necros sacrafice life, and alot of the best necro/mesmer skills are ones that newbies might not consider good (such as blood is power, lingering curse, diversion, illusionary weaponry)). Rangers and warriors being the best due to ethier high armor/defences or good healing ability. This allows you to make many mistakes and/or be more lazy and still survive.

If Tiger's Fury isn't an important skill in your build, that is
