The doppleganger is really easy to kill if you think about it.
All you have to do is go in with one skill which blocks attacks and one which does extra damage when your target attempts to block, then never use your block and keep hitting him with the block breaking attack.
You willl win hands down in no time.

Frenzy + all hammer attacks, own him in about 10 seconds.

Another good combo is Frenzu+Disrupting Chop+Heal Signet. Bring some useless skills to make em stop attacking you.

Frenzy attacks faster but you takes double damage. Dopple uses it and your attacks drop him incredibly quick. My hammer warror beat eh dopple in about 12 seconds, at level 14. Knockdown, Belly Smash, he never even hit me after that.
Sword warrior took a few seconds longer. Sever Artery, Gash, Riposte, Deadly Riposte, collect bonus.

Go in with Frenzy, Sever Artery, Gash, and Final Thrust. Use skills when they light up, he should be dead as or just after Final Thrust is charged.
Don't use Frenzy yourself, he will use it and take double damage.

thats emm 72 dmg every time he hits u and he attakcs 33% faster = 72 dmg per sec thats 800+ dmg in the time of gladiators defence and 100 on deadly riposte , hes gonig down fast.

You get the occasional weapon drop. I think the bonus is just extra XP, but I've never done the math before.

The bonus is just if you kill him fast, and its just a whole lote more xp, always worth doing. But i have found if you kill him, it will either be right away, or not. You don't take 5 minutes to kill him, its fast.

I just walked in with my typical W/Mo combination and kicked the tar out of him in about 30 seconds anyway. Being intelligent with your skill combinations (Sever Artery/Gash/Final Thrust that sort of thing) you can do it incredibly easy. A real dirty trick is to let the guy take Healing Signet, and interrupt it when he's above 50% and then use Final Thrust when he's below 50%. Freakin devastating.

I found the best strategy for taking out my doppleganger was to go in not knowing what I was doing. 
Being unprepared was my best defense and offense. My doppleganger didn't know what hit him! I dropped him in about 15 seconds and wondered what all the fuss was about. I suspect I naturally had a bad build and he paid for it dearly!!
