New Guy To Guild Wars

I know this is probably beating a dead horse but I havent bought the game yet and im about to start. I just happened to come across these forums which is nice by the way. Anyhow, Ive played mmos for a very very long time but got outta them when prices increased so now Guild Wars is in my playbook. My question is I am looking at making a nice decent stable Warrior/Monk build that I can keep and use for pvp/pve/farming or whatever and for the most part to get a grasp on the game. I figured this kinda character would be a good way for me to ease into the game and get a handle on things.

What do you all suggest?

The one really neato thing about GW is that there are very very few choices that can't be reversed in the game as you learn it. When you allocate your attribute points, they can later be re-allocated with no adverse effects. Playing your Wa/Mo as 50-50 warrior/protection monk works pretty good for solo play up until about level 12. Then you can switch it to be something else.

The only irreversable you're going to face is when to leave pre-searing. Do the quests, get a belt pouch, and decide when you want to go. There is nothing that you will miss out on if you leave about level 5. Some go as early as 3. Some speed through the game with the help of guildies and complete the quest that raises them to level 20. It's up to you to decide how you want to play.

What is pre-searing? Also, what kinda stuff would I miss out on? Your also telling me that I can put points into something and then like 5 levels later down the road change it, if it isnt doing me any good?

Pre-searing is the begging of the game when ascalon is peaceful and all that. Post searing is after the charr destroyed ascalon.

And yes. You get attribute points that you can put into skills from your primary and secondary proffession.

If you dont like the way you set up your attributes later down the road, you can use attribute refunds (You get 1 refund per 250 experience you get) and oragnize them a different way.

Im also figuring out this weapon choosing stuff. Im going to be a monk so I think monks use energy so does that mean I dont want a weapon that uses enegery so I can save energy spells? Am I missing something?

if you're going to play a W/Mo you're going to have access to adrenaline based skills (theres a guide on those somewhere on this site, either in the guides section or somewhere in the forums) which means that a number of your skills wont use energy. However, being a W/Mo also means that you'll only have 20 energy and only 2 arrows of energy regen, which is not a lot considering there are quite a few spells you're going to want that cost 10. There are a number of answers to this though, and looking through the skills listing on this site might help you figure out how to get around it. (I play a R/W, so I don't really have to worry about energy managment, it's taken care of by one of my attributes)
And any warrior weapon you choose will have a number of energy skills and a number of adrenal skills.

If you balance your skills well enough you shouldn't have too much trouble with energy.

The other thing is that if you have one of your monk attributes high enough you have access to energy increasing off hand items, so instead of 20 energy you'll have 32 at the end of the game. The downside here is that you wont be able to use a sheild, which is a drawback for a tank.
Same thing for armor, you can get the gladiators set which will push your energy up 7(8?) more points, but is slightly less armored.

The biggest thing is that you have to make choices between two things that are both going to be pretty good, and you just have to figure out which one is better for the role you want your character to fill.
