There's an FX fix for the game, covers multiple problems, try it and tell us how it goes.

disabling agp fast writes in bios and setting graphics to minimum seemed to delay crash a long time, still happens tho. The "FX fix" u mentioned is for graphical glitches and is just setting it to high quality which i already had it set to anyway. there are no problems with visuals, it will just periodically freeze and say un unrecoverable error in graphics driver has occurred.

Completely uninstall drivers, run driver cleaner (available from www.guru3d.com) and then try reinstalling them.

Have you checked to see if your video card is overheating? and updating motherboard drivers?

reformatted my comp, no luck.
definately nto overheating
plus if its overheating my comp would freeze or restart, and its not, its just closing the game and saying unrecoverable error in graphics driver occurred.
My motherboard is old, no new drivers for it, plus error specifically states unrecoverable error in graphics driver

Try the Official Nvidia Forceware 71.24 drivers. They've worked better than any other official Nvidia drivers for me and a number of people I know (some with your exact graphics card).

Failing that, it sounds like your GFX card could be having a serious problem handling the data now. A sign of old age. But we've got a lot more to try before we come to that conclusion.

Not nessecarily. If a video card is overheating it could lock up, show graphic errors (funky colors and such) or kick out an error

The "error in the graphics driver" does not nessecarily mean that its actually caused by the graphics driver.

I don't have any visual glitches, and I said it definately is not overheating.
On the positive side, the game now works for me. I just had to downgrade all the way back to 56.72 drivers and it works

I think I've recently solved my problem (same as yours)

I had dual screens running dualview switched to 1 display only and haven't crashed since, If you don't have dualview enabled then ignore this. Just a thought!

i did had the same problem.
but when you install the newest nvidia driver there should be a nvidia mark in the bottom right corner of you screen.
then you go to performance and ...
then set the image settings on high quality.
it worked for my good luck.

There also seems to be an issue with AntiVir Guard running while playing the game.

I had the same problems for the longest time until I saw a thread that mentioned turning it off. I haven't crashed due to a graphics error since and I used to get it 3-4 times an hour until I finally got a BSOD.

Now if I could just fix the Error 7 problems I'm golden....never had to screw around so much with a game in my life lol

NVidia is known for screwing people over with drivers. Basically what happens is that at some point during the card's life (when it has been replaced by a newer model), the drivers stop working properly with the older models.

I remember a while back when I used to own a GF3-Ti200, I couldn't run the card with the newer drivers that were released around the time that GF4 came out because when I'd install them, the system would simply fail to boot up. I tried the card on a couple of systems, clean OS installs, and each time it would present the same problem. Ended up getting a Radeon 9600XT, and problem solved.
