I'm going to speculate that he wants them for hiding energy while pvping, to save him from energy denial for example.
In which case, he probably won't want bows since they are 2 handed (which would also deny hammers), and leave your offhand useless to him phosho, since it is not really a -5 offhand, its a +7 offhand.

As far as i'm aware umop, there aren't any -5 energy offhands, -2 ones certainly from presear.
