Lvl 20
Lexar
Now bare with me for a moment, I'm not going to ask for the level cap to go up, don't worry.
Right now with the new expansion going to be 80% aimed to ascended or lvl 20 characters, in most of the gameworld, everyone will be level 20, and you will probably see towns with only level 20's throughout the whole game, which makes the whole idea of showing level 20 rather pointless, since everyone is at the same level anyway.
Now I'm not going to suggest to raise the level cap, that's silly, we all heard it before, but I have two suggestions to help witht he general misconception that level 20 is a low level cap and that it works like traditional rpg's.
First one is to make the skillpoints you get once you go over 20 make it say that you have raised another level. Of course you're not getting any attribute points, so any lvl 20 would be just as strong as a lvl 45 or anything like that, and they're not getting extra hp either, but it would stop people from complaining about the level cap, and be a good substitute for emotes in PvE.
I'm aware it has it's pro's and cons, for example, you could have level 50+ PuG like you have rank 6+ pugs in tombs now, but that shouldn't stop Anet from implementing it in PvE since they haven't tried to stop the elitism in PvP either.
The second suggestion, and my favorite, would be to just get rid of the lvl 20 indicator in front of the professions and name altogether once you reach level 20. Make levels work like this. You get 1/20 all the way up to 20/20 and when you are ascended and have both 15 attribute point quests and you are level 20, the indicator goes away and maybe is replaced with a symbol. Instead of
'20 W/Mo Name Of Character' you'd get:
'*W/Mo Name Of Character'
The symbol could also change like a sort of medals, when you'd finish all the bonusses or all the titan quests for example, and would also be a decent alternative to emotes for pve.

Hell yes! I'd love some type of medals. I'm a PVE only player, and there's no *real* reward I get from it, like Fame in PVP.

It'd definitely give some players an incentive to do Mission+Bonus, and actually complete ALL quests!
When I first started playing, getting a group for mission+bonus was no problem at all. Now, when I help guildies out to complete the missions and bonuses, many players seem to refuse to do the bonus because it's "a waste of time" and "they rather do it later".
Which really makes no sense, because wouldn't doing the mission+bonus take less time then doing the mission twice, to achieve the bonus the second time?
Anyway. I like the idea of unlocking ranks or emotes as you complete a certain percentage of PVE. My monk has everything completed, missions/bonuses, and quests... and nothing to show for it. Pretty sad.
And it deters me from doing the same with my other chars. I do what I need to get what I need and I save the extra quests and bonuses to do with guildies when they start new characters. So I got most stuff completed on my other chars too.
If PVP players have a superficial way of showing their achievments, why can't us PVE players?

I like this idea, I'don't have a high rank, cause I like PvE more. This would be so great for me. People can see then that I'm not some noob (most of the times they have to check my armor for that ). I have almost all the gold and green weapons for every magic, stuff like that. I finished the game with serveral characs bla bla bla... I still do missions I finished just because I like them. I just love Thunderhead Keep.

from GW Guild Wars, in contrast, is based around your skill as a player. Our maximum level is twenty and you hit that very quickly, after about 20-30 hours of play. ,We call that 'The Point of Ascension'. Almost all of the content in the game and in the future Chapters is only available to Ascended characters, which means we don't have to worry about providing different levels of content. All the good stuff will be available to everyone. It's not our intent to force people onto the levelling up treadmill, so the level cap in Guild Wars is almost meaningless. |

I'm in.
Remove the "Level 20" label all together.
Its rather pointless when everyone is already level 20.
The 1/20 till 20/20 is one way of putting it.
Anyway,
Maximum base health: 480
Base energy: 20
Maximum attribute points: 200
These 3 figures should not be changed, ever.
Until ANET decides otherwise.

If you want to know how "experienced" your potential PUG mates are... ask them what skills they plan on using and why they chose those skills.
Hendorr
You can always ask ppl a random skill and then what it does. It's a good indication for the "pr0ness" ( < new word ^^ ) of ppl.

The good thing at the start of an rpg is having poor weapons and armor and the excitement when you finally find something better to equip or have the money to buy. Once you have the best stuff and have completed the game, what else can quench the thirst for more? Medals are a great idea, and one of the reasons why I have been hooked on Battlefield 2 recently. Awards for excellent teamplay, number of kills with primary skills, number of kills with secondary, number of heals, etc. Advanced awards which need a number of different criteria to be met in a single mission as well would add that extra level to PvE which is needed by those who openly admit they are just waiting around for Chapter 2 to get here.

I don't like it at all, for the same reason I don't like fame. If you need that kind of crutch to feel good, I'm sorry for you. It promotes elitism, and I'm not a fan. Besides, who has the most "levels" in PvE? Farmers. Do you really think a farmer is the best player around, or that we should reward farming? Give me a break; I'm on my 10th or so PvE character, I've got two full accounts and have deleted several toons including level 20s over my time in GW. My new character will be predjudiced against, despite that? Great, they'll say "Oh, you're only levl 24, noob," or something? Perfect, great reward for having completed the game many times.
The reward for play should be play, not some silly trinket or bauble you show off. Read The Sneetches. At least they wised up and learned. If you want little things for yourself, that's fine, like the /age function, or the /deaths function - not broadcasting it for everyone, but I am adamantly against the dumb "I've spent more time at this so I deserve something" nonsense. Skill, not time spent, boyo, and there is no real measure of skill in PvE - there just isn't. It certainly isn't farming with a 55 monk, despite all the loot and XP you get.

Yes, I will /sign on getting ride of any indication of level after you get pass lv 20. Sure, it might be confusing to some new player, but it will get pass soon. But not /sign on continuing the level counting. A icon indication or a title indciation of how much exp you have would also be welcome.
On a side note about levels... I always want to see them cap at lv 40...and before I got any flame...by that I mean lv40==lv20 in all things. So if you are lv 10 in the lv40 system, would be same as you are lv 5 in the lv 20 system. This just make leveling "seem" eaiser. Of couse, not likely it will happen....

I've done pretty much everything, heck I even got enough skill points to unlock another secondary. I have several sets of Drok's armor and most green weapons for my professions, all skills, all attributes, all missions and bonuses completed aswell. But for all I know, that level 20 next to me could have nearly no skills, not completed any attribute quests, and be wearing ascalon armour and not even know where the 'ring of fire' is. All you have to do is get to level 20 and battle isle or whatever. Whoo...
I've always though the level cap shouldn't exist, just that after level 20, nothing new happens except for a new skill point and the showing that you gained the 15k xp for the skill point is all. Maybe set up 4 badges that you can have on your cap neck or wear as a necklace that show All quests, all missions, all bonuses, and all skills. And then maybe give us an emote once we've unlocked all the skills from a class. That way us PVErs can do /mesmer, /monk, /necromancer, /warrior, /ranger, or /elementalist and have something come out to show their progress on how many skills they've unlocked from each class.
Then finally add a '/signed' emote.

I think actionjack pretty much said what I was going to say.
Once you reach Level 20, the level indicator on your name is removed. As indicated, most people will be Level 20 in Factions, so seeing that Level next to your name would be redundant, in my opinion. If you are not level 20, your level would still appear on your name.

You can be level 20 and not yet ascended and be missing 30 attribute points, but once you have that as well, it should go away, I agree.

What I meant to say is that level 20 doesnt mean anything, so I was suggesting things to replace it with. You can make a big deal about elitism in an other topic.

So:
For removing the lvl 20 (it's redundant, but then again, why bother removing it...)
For possible PvE rewards, so long as they aren't tied to something silly like experience, but are instead for game accomplishments (All skills unlocked and all bonuses done sound reasonable, as they aren't impossible nor do they have a "level" indicator to them - you can't have more bonus missions done than someone else if you both did them all for example)
Against continuing displays of level, emotes based on experience, gold, faction, fame, rank and all other forms of measuring worth based on the amount of time played.

Personally, it bugs me, for players who have 3 level 20 chars or more, but have never set foot into the Hell's Precipice mission. Or has never done Ice Caves or Iron Mines because they skipped it all just to do Thunderhead Keep to get to Ember Light Camp.

come on now who doesn't love rewards for their acheivements.
i do remember reading some thing from 1 of the devs about there being ways to define ourselves more in pve for ch2,but do they meen a rewrd system like this or just a hair dresser/town cloths type of thing ?.

awesome idea this is one of the best, show the levels and show how much weve played but not actually give us any extras for playing longer, just show that we have.

Removing lvl 20 indicator: Don't care either way
Rewards for Exp lvl: *Rolls up news paper* No! Bad idea! Bad! *Whack!*
Rewards for Finishing Missions/Bonus/Certain Quests/etc: Good Idea
This is very much similar to the "Titles" idea posted by another, my favorite addition to this would be getting a certain number of kills of a type of mob, or maybe soloing a certain amount at the same time. But I digress, and I shall digress again.
Actually in the interveiw I read (recent one) 20% of Factions will be for Ascended Players. Confirmation?

Well, I hate to be a disagreeing Danny, but I have to disagree with this suggstion. There is just something about giving people more to brag about that makes me want to shoot it down, and trust me I know all about getting shot down... Zing.
Anyways the idea is nice but I can not see it doing any good what-so-ever to the community that is already so focused on "LOLZ show us how leetz u arrrrr. Zomg ur only rank 3! ZLOL N<><>b."
So as you can see I disagree.... Like the disagreeing person I am.

The OP had two suggestions, the first which promotes bragging that you, Ultimate_Gaara disagrees.
The second, which suggests that the level 20 label be removed all together when a player has "ascended" and have 200 maximum attribute points.
I myself don't like the first idea which promotes elitism, bragging etc.
But for the second idea, I believe it would be feasable.

New PvE emotes (a la pvp rank) for players with notable PvE accomplishments (all titan quests, final assault very quickly, new UW in less than one hour, all missions completed flawlessly at least once, or whatever)? Why not.
Rewarding farmers/grinders with a badge? Not a thrilling perspective.

I'd say all rewards that don't modify stats / gear / whatever_is_useable are somewhat the little but with great meaning flavour of the game.
Theese little things that are worth exactly nothing (in meaning of advantage over others) are acceptable.
What have PvE Players that PvP character will never got? (not mentioning gear gear type like grotto / fow armor)
There are only two things - gear that is not customized and infused armor.
Ok, I forgot, Ascention, UW spider as pet and collectors items.
What have PvP that PvE will never get?
Weapons / gear with PVP prefix in name.
All rest is achieveable by both types. For PvP major factor is Fame / Rank, it is normal that denizens of PvE would like to show up somewhat different from heroes of PvP.
Armor, pets, different stuff. This is true for PvE to PvP comparison, while PvP against PvP have fame / rank, PvE against PvE have nothing to distinguish those who followed plot synopsis from those who runned whole game.
IMHO - best way to distinguish runners from story followers is as others mentioned kind of gift / reward for completing all skills/runes/upgrades unlock, cooperative missions and bonuses, for quests really hard like titans.
However things like "Finish new tombs in less than FIXED_AMOUNT_OF_TIME is pointless due to some party builds can't achieve this whatever their efforts are. Show me a trapper team doing Tombs in less than 90 minutes and I'd say I saw nothing in GW.
Anyway,
