Alright, time for a new thread, my ettin farmin thread was a hit so here is a in depth thread into Troll farming. Lets start with a list of what you need for this build.
Note this is, of course, not the only build that works but I have come to like it.
You will need:An axe that suites you.
Mods for your axe that I reccomend: Sundering/Firey/Zelous/Vampiric/Furious/Trollslaying : whatever floats your boat.
A level 20 M/mo that is a Droknars Forge.
A few skills that are easily obtained
Alright the build is: Cyclone Axe
Executioners Strike
Gladiators defense {Elite}
Bonetti's defense
Vigorous Spirit
Healing Breeze
Holy Veil
Mending
Attributes: Axe: 12-13 | Healing 8 | Tactics: as high as possible because of Gladiators Defense
As far as skills that are tough to get: the only one is Gladiators Defense, which you capture from the Facet of strength, which is the 6th boss in the Dragons Lair mission. If you are ascended you will have this mission so its not a tough cap to find.
You start out by exiting out Droks forge to the North, there will be a group of Avicarra on your left, and usually 2-3 trolls on the hill above them, I usually slide up around the Avicarra and take those Trolls down as a warm up, also it will get your adrenaline up quickly.
Refer to the map below for guidance.
After getting around the Avicarra you are ready to get some crazy expiriance. A scroll of Advnturers insight will keep you getting +250% exp for 5 minutes. This gets you a ton of exp per troll.
You walk into the entrance to the Ice Cave and agro a group of trolls, there should be a gathering of around 12-18 here, depending on spawns. You use the build I gave you in logical order to take them all down at once, while swinging away to keep adrenaline up, you won't even have an energy problem because of bonetti's.
In terms of farming items, these level 24 guys do drop golds and purples semi-frequently as well, I would reccomend farming them from time to time for some solo-variety. There is another screen below that shows a rare, max, req 8 flatbow that dropped for me, a purple also dropped from that group. The longbow had a 20% enchanting mod which I salvaged. Not bad for 2 minutes worth of work.
After the first big group proceed west and then north in the cave to the rest of the trolls. You are obligated to kill all the trolls relatively fast to increase the expiriance on each scroll, don't want it to run out! After killing the last group with the Boss in it you zone back and start again.
This is a GREAT way to powerlevel a friend or clients character, you can charge about 2k a level, if the person is around level 13, they get about 2 levels the first run, and they buy the scrolls. So you get 4k, plus some drops and lots of expiriance. This gem should not be overlooked in tyria. It is a great place for solo fun, guild fun (because you can doit with a couple people if you want) and powerleveling profit. A great way to farm skill points as well.
Here is the map:
Here is the screen from the first group of trolls.
Thank you all for your time, PM me in game if you have any questions, other builds are welcome to be posted here as well. I may be starting a class on this soon with more in depth info, depending on demand.
My guild is looking for mature, high level, active members, if you like this thread and my others, p.m. me in game, we can talk.
The best of luck to all of you in farming trolls, weather it be for drops, expiriance, or fun. Remeber, games are here for fun, thats the point of playing. Try and have fun

Yea back up for avicarra, I figured someone would call me on that. You don't really need other skills, you could just use another skill for damage I suppose though. Sometimes I fight the avicarra though.

There's a perfect spawn with no avicara, just go back into Drok's and back out if they're in the way
09 Feb 2006 at 20:11 - 5
ive always looked on trolls as the easier versions of griffons with less drops ^^, good guide though!
drop breeze for sprint and holy viel for live vicausly
09 Feb 2006 at 21:43 - 6
My old build. The drops there are pretty bad compared to other places.
But if you like me and want to make a w/every class this is the place for exp. Throw on the 3x exp scroll and get a skill point ever 2-3 runs (6-11 minutes per skill point)
W/E
Gladiator stance
Bonetti
armor of earth
crystal wave
aftershock
healing sig
sprint
cyclone axe or to the limit if using sword
16 tactic
12 earth
rest in strength for sprint
10 Feb 2006 at 18:25 - 10
Here's the build I use
Gladiator's Defense
Bonetti's Defense
Riposte
Deadly Riposte
Distracting Blow (Mostly for the Ranger boss)
Sprint
Healing Sig
Dolyak Sig
This works great for me as I'm almost never interrupted (unless Im not paying attention) and the trolls go down pretty fast.
my attributes are
Strength 11 (10+1)
Tactics 15 (11+3+1)
Sword 11 (10+1)
11 Feb 2006 at 15:58 - 11
Heres my sword build that i use to farm these beasts:
Deadly Riposte
Watch Yourself
Bonetties Defence
Defensive Stance
Gladiators defense {Elite}
Healing Breeze
Mending
Vigourus Spirit
Attributes
Sword:12 (no rune)
Tactics: 12 (11+1)
Strength 4 (2+2)
Healing 8
Stragedy: As soon as you get out of droks cast mending then run up to the cave or whatever, duh ^_^ then cast Vig Spirit right before battle, throw on glads too, and even cast breeze if you want then throw riposte, the goal of this build is just to stay alive to throw on Glads again so you can throw riposte and rethrow your enchants, defensive stance is an emergiancy stance when you cant throw bonetties... its not fast but it works
Remember, dont feed the trolls, farm them
11 Feb 2006 at 16:47 - 12
yea i agree, live vicarously is really helpful. holy veil is needed. as long as you have sprint
11 Feb 2006 at 18:27 - 13
I use this build
W/Mo
Atts:
Axe Mastery: 9
Smiting Prayers: 11
Healing Prayers: 8
Strength: 10
Weapons:
Sundering Cleaver of Enchanting
Slashing Damage 6-28 (req. 9 Axe Mastery)
Damage +15% (while health is above 50%)
Enchantments Last 20% Longer
Armor Penetration +10% (Chance: 10%)
Thorgall's Shield
Armor: 16 (req. 9 Strength)
Received Damage -2 (while enchanted)
Reduces Weakness duration on you by 20%
My Skills:
Cyclone Axe
Bonetti's Defense
Healing Breeze
Shield Of Judgement
Dolyak Signet
Vigirous Spirit
Live Vicariously
Mending
While you may not recieve as many gold as farming griffons, the chests are seen here more often than in the desert and usually contain better items. Also raven staffs give an enormous amount of wood when salvaged. Usually get around 1000 wood every 2 hours. So that's about 10k every two hours selling wood, plus whatever other drops you may recieve.
In any case, Shield of Judgement is 10 times better than Glad's Defense. It lasts longer whilch means you dont have to constantly keep up with it. And it does more damage. Using a strength shield allows you to cranks up the dolyak, which you normally can't do if you're using a bunch of tactics. w00t

Are you nuts? Selling wood
Turn that stuff into parchment and sell the parchment. Unless I am missing something this is still more profit than dumping wood.
11 Feb 2006 at 19:37 - 15
hmm since everyone likes , heres 2 builds sword and axe
yep w/mo ...again hehe
sword
use a furious sword of defence
0 sword
12 strength (+3)
16 tactics (+4)
9 healing
flurry
riposte
gladiators defence
doylak sigit
vigerous spirit
live vicously
balthzars spirit

axe
use a vampiric axe of defence
15 axe (+4)
13 tactics (+3)
10 healing
cyclone axe
bonneti's defence
watchyourself
gladiators defence
vigerous spirit
live vicously
mending
sprint
the exact ones i use
11 Feb 2006 at 20:04 - 16
I tried out Don't Feel No Pain's Build for axe and it worked like a charm
Edit: and killing only the trolls in the cave I went from 33 to 55% of my next level without a scroll. Killing stuff in the cave 58% (I had to kill some trolls blocking my path) to 18% on the next skill point. All that with a scroll of slayers insight
11 Feb 2006 at 21:44 - 17
acauly i missed something on my build
use a vampric axe and mending insted of balthzars spirit
11 Feb 2006 at 22:14 - 18
I still prefer SOJ :P
While parchment is worth more money, there are lots of parchment sellers and not many wood sellers, so i can take 4000 wood into forge and sell it all with five minutes for 10 each. Parchment takes forever to sell and noone wants more than 200, while parchment sellers will buy thousands of wood in bulk. Less money, but takes less time= more time to farm.

Ok I dont' get the attribute points lay out.......... Is it your main damage is in crystal wave and aftershock? If so, why not take out crystal wave and put in whirlwind to combo in with aftershock, and then a zealous haft on ur axe (cyclone axe for energy)
OH NOW I GET IT! Points in strength so you'll be penetrating the armor and there's your weapon damage! Sry noob warrior over here im more of an elementalist and ranger.........But I wonder about the changes I suggested.....Did they help?
13 Feb 2006 at 19:22 - 20
My new build :
Healing Breeze
Glads Defense
Bonetti's Defense
Cyclone Axe
Executioners Strike
Sprint
Live Vicariously
Mending
You won't die... Even if you get interupted you can keep your defenses up and breeze when you get low.
14 Feb 2006 at 20:55 - 21
Warrior/Monk
*Attributes
-8 Healing
-11+ Axe Mastery
-12 Tactics
-8 Strength
*Skills
-Bonettti's Defence
-Gladz Defence
-Doylak Signet (use all 3 of these for defence ^)
-Cyclone Axe
-Vig spirit
-(forgot but it does same thing as vig spirit but its an enchantment, check healing)
-Mending
-Balthazars Spirit
Awesome for me, I usually farm 1k+ average solo if you kill all the trolls + gold items every now and then.
So far I have gotten 1 silver, 1 black, and a half of dozen other dyes, maybe 10 gold items? Its good place for only doing it for a few days.
14 Feb 2006 at 21:30 - 22
i got a better build and it goes liek this:
attributes:
healing prayers-10
smiting prayers-10
tactics-11
take note that these are the minimum requirements, feel free to add mroe to misting and tactics.
skills:
cyclone axe
bonetti's defense
vigorous spirit
glad's def
symbol of wrath
sprint
balzathars spirit
live vicariously
all you have to do is go to talus chute through droknars, put on balthazars spirit, wait to have at least 20 energy then cast live vicariously. use sprint to get past avicaras and get to cave faster; balthazars spirit should ahve recharged about 4 energy 'cause of the avicara fierces' arrows. when u get to trolls use glad's def and then vigorous spirit. use cyclone axe to charge ur adrenaline, and when glads is about to run out use bonetti's. when cyclone axe is about half way recharged cast symbol of wrath, and use cyclone axe as fast as u can to gain health and charge up bonnettis so u cna sue it right away. becaue of the patch about half of the trols should run away, dont worry the come back liek 1 second later. when they get back use cyclone axe and bonnettis if glads def hasn't recharged, if it is then use it. by the time u've done all of this vigorous spirit should be almost done so cast it while you still have galds def on you. now all you ahve to do is repeat this process about 2 more times. it takes a few tries to get used to it and get the timing right, so dont try it once and leave if u dont get it right away.
i would also recomend using an axe of enchantment so your vigorous spirit lasts longer.another that u should watch out for is interupts, once in a few runs the trolls will interupt your cyclone axe, to stay alive just keep spamming bonettis defense and glad's defense(remeber you can only have once stance one you at a time so dont use them together)
15 Feb 2006 at 03:55 - 23
i beleive lamdathegreat(? i think it was him, if not to whom ever made this 1) had an awesome build which i currently use for trolls. it goes:
axe W/r
Glads armor preferred, i think u might be able to use others,
12 axe
11 tac
10 str
8wild
Apply poison
serpents quickness
doylak signet
gladiator's defenses
cyclone axe
bonettis defenses
watch yourself
sprint
i get all the aggro of the trolls then cast serpents quickness -> doylak Sig -> Glads defenses -> apply poison -> cyclone axe -> bonettis def, then keep switching off cyclone axe and bonettis def while adding watch yourself and doylak sig in the mix until glads def recharges. once it does recharge, re apply poison, and cyclone axe, watch yourself cyclone axe, bon def.then kill off the other alive, etc. this build owns, i can do 1 run in about 3-5minutes.
i also prefer to have glads armor for the energy, 2 dif axes (1 vamp, 1 15%in a stance with armor upgrade), and the +45hp - 2 dmg stance crimson carapece shield from that 1 collector. i think u guys should use this for gettin skill points bcuz w/ scroll u get 1 in like 8 minutes, along with selling to get a plat to buy skills, etc. props to whomever i found this build on.

ditto
i do the same run except i go up and kill the giants, followed by a run into teh grawls for runes.
16 Feb 2006 at 00:05 - 25
What wields better drops, Trolls or Ettins?
16 Feb 2006 at 02:48 - 26
Ettins drop runes.
Trolls drop everything else.
16 Feb 2006 at 04:00 - 27
I have found that griffs drop more gold and more purple/gold items, but at the same time they are fairly crappy when I.D.ed. Trolls drop raven staffs and staffs=wood. Ettins drop runes, but we all know how hard it is to get that coveted Superior anything. If you need a quick 1k boost for some purpose farm trolls for 2-3 runs and sell the wood. If you have more time and want the chance to get a good mod go for grifs.
25 Feb 2006 at 21:40 - 28
we having fun yet
26 Feb 2006 at 04:34 - 29
^^
what do u use for energy regen?
26 Feb 2006 at 04:35 - 30
oh realized u have a (*zealous*)
sword when i noticed that u only have 1 enchant drain up
26 Feb 2006 at 14:35 - 31
yep yep , gah trolls realy are not worth the runs no more
26 Feb 2006 at 16:17 - 32
hm
i have a build with only 5 skills..
Cyclo
Bonetti
Vigorous
Gladiators
live vicorously
thats all
it works on griff farm too
26 Feb 2006 at 16:28 - 33
it acualy works without vigerous spirit hehe , yeah well if u got 8 skills slots there is nothing wrong with filling emm

woops ...
20 Mar 2006 at 12:45 - 36
this is the build i use, very good energy management even when NOT in bonnetis =p
Tatics: 10+1+1 (Helm and Rune)
Axe Mastery:11
Healing Prayers: 9
Pump rest in Smiting and Strength.
Equipment:
Full Gladiators Armor
-Major/Sup Vigor and Absorb
-Grognars Defender or the Crimson Carapace Shield.
-Axe (Duh) I personally use a Razorstone.
Cyclone Axe
Gladiators Defence
Bonneti's Defence
Sprint
Healing Signet (Not Really Needed)
Healing Breeze
Bathazar's Spirit
Live Vicariously
How to Use:
1) Go to Talus Chute and cast both enchants.
2) Run towards the cave, if there are avicara and trolls wondering about, no worries, sprint past them, they dont follow much.
3) Barge in the cave and aggro a bunch of trolls.
4) Slap on Gladiators Defence.
5) While Glad's is still on, cyclone as much as you can.
6) When Glad's runs out, slap on Bonnetis and wait for cyclone to recharge.
7) Keep spamming Cyclone and Bonnetis until Glads is recharged.
8) Put glads on, use healing breeze if needed at THIS TIME ONLY and spam cyclone.
9) Repeat until they are all dead.
This works real great and i only died twice when i was body blocked while running to the troll caves.
Live Vicariously would heal you for a BUNCH, you will see tons of blue +11's whenever you cyclone, so there isnt really a way how you can die. Bathazar's Spirit gives you energy whenever your in gladiators.
Enjoy
20 Mar 2006 at 14:15 - 37
Tip: if you are using breeze , do not do cyclone axe sriaght after , wait a second then do so , breeze can trigger all the trolls to attempt disrupting chop, they are too slow to hit your breeze but will accidently hit cyclone axe , its happened to me too many times.
21 Mar 2006 at 04:33 - 38
Battle Torn's build is magnificient for this.
Cyclone Axe
Bonettis Defense
Gladiators Defense
Sprint
Healing Breeze
Live Vicariously
Balthazaar's Spirit
Mending
Just cast Mending and balths spirit right out of the gate. Run into the group of avicara and watch Dual shot + ignite arrows give you 4 energy per hit. When your full on energy, sprint out, and up the hill into the cave.
I prefer to run PAST the big group, and running to the warrior bosses group (Krogg Shmush) and then bringing him back down to the bg group. This gives you a big guy with tons of HP. Just drag him into the big group, hit Glads Defense, then Live VIariously, and then throw out the cyclone. IMMEDIATELY throwdown BOnnetis Defense, and watch your energy max out. Just stay targeting Krogg and cylcone when it comes back up. When glads Defense comes bacl online, cyclone then hit it. Dont hit bonnetis until Glads is blinking to go out, as you dont want to waste the damage output.
When you get used to this, drop the uneeded Healing Breeze for an adrenaline attack to speed up killing the boss.
Dont bother with the ranger boss.
21 Mar 2006 at 04:41 - 39
Yet again I feel it's my roll to point out that war's don't have all the fun. I've been teaching a good number of people how to solo trap this lately. Not difficult at all. I use:
beast 7
exp. 13
wild. 15
4 traps
Serpent's quickness
troll ungent
storm chaser
Edge of extinction
Can anyone provide more details on salvaging wood? I usually just ID and sell everthing (staves are like 70-80 gold a pop). Does salvaging wood beat this? What are the details of the parchment process, and does it beat those numbers?

yea thats what i do =p or you can also, glads, cyclone, breeze, by the time cyclone recharges, they would of finished spamming disrupting.
and how do u solo trap the trolls? set traps then pull? sometimes they spawn near the entrance of the cave =/ and mantra of resolve would drain your energy so fast in this case..
