having never played WoW, i can only guess that it invlolves animals ans nature and stuff. the closest you will get is ranger, who can tame animals and summon spirits, but is more of an archery/trap setting type then a magic user.
using this charachter combined with warrior as a primary or scondary can be very effective

Then you might want to start out as a warrior.
In the current game, you can choose between warrior, monk, mesmer, ranger, elementalist and necromancer. With Chapter 2 (coming this spring) you can also choose assassin and ritualist.
You will pick one of those to be your primary character which determines what armors you can wear and some health and energy (mana) stats. Then you will pick from the rest to be your secondary class, which will help with back-up and supporting skills. There's plenty of ways to play and lots of freedom in choosing how you want your character to work. Just have fun testing things until you find what works for you.

have 1 charachter take on huge numbers of other people
have lots of skills equipped at once
lvl cap at 20
and other stuff.
in GW, any one persone can kill another if they are set up right...no warior killing 10 mesmers or something. Very balanced game.
in GW, you have only 8 skills equipped, so which ones you chose is huge strategy deal.
GW lvl cap is 20----WOW is 60 soon to be 70?
basically, GW is the opposite of WoW in many of the main aspects of the game
Techo, I'm going to guess Soul Shaker means that Guild Wars is almost the exact opposite of WoW. I've never played WoW myself, but if it conforms to the usual MMORPG stereotype, then GW will be very different. With the exception of outposts and town, you (and your party if you have one) get your own "instance" of the map section. This means that you're all alone in the middle of a map filled with enemies, and no-one to steal your kills. Also, the maximum level is 20, which is obtainable before you have made it through roughly half the game. Besides the attribute points and health gained at each level, there isn't much difference between levels. The points paid into various attributes determine how hard your character hits, (weapon strength also plays a part) and the player's ability to respond to various circumstances and react to them with the proper skill are a more deciding factor in determining the outcome. To sum my last statement up, how good a player you are determines how well you do, not hours played. For a seriously hard-core gamer, a single day's play could get him/her to lvl 20, and another day's play for enough money for really good armor and weapons. However, those are the type of people who like "hours played" MMORPGs because they have a 5-hour advantage over the guy who only plays 2 hours a day, and you don't see many of them in Guild wars.
As for your initial question, I think it's already been answered. Currently you can have up to 4 characters of 2 professions each, a primary and a secondary. Each of the 6 professions has a "special attribute" that is only available to that characters of that profession if said profession is the primary profession. Simpler terms: Elementalist primaries get an attribute that increases maximum energy. A Mesmer/Elementalist does not get that attribute, but the Mesmer primary gets a faster-casting attribute that Elementalist/Mesmers cannot get.
Second half of original question: One server (actually a huge mess of servers linked together) per continent, and one international server for people from different continents to meet in. Each server is divided into "districts" to keep towns from getting too crowded. You can change districts at will and in-game via a small menu at the top-left corner.

any NPC with a quest has a bright green exclamation mark over their heads so they are hard to miss.speak get quest and you are good to go.
dont take too many quests at once in an area as the instance you enter will load all the regular enemies PLUS all the extra enemies for a particular quest.
