Earning Your FoW Armor

I really want to hear from those in the game who earned their FoW armor. I'm tired of asking those who have it and they say "Ebay". I want to know some specifics, how long did it take you, what all did you do to earn for it? Where did you farm, what and how often? Did you run people?

I don't really want opinions on whether it's worth it or not, or anything of that sort. I want some good helpful advice on HOW to best earn my FoW armor.

Note: I'm a real lady, and I don't want to hear nasty comments or stuff like that. If you have something un-nice to say, say it to my sword.

Besides, I thought Ebay gold buying was against the rules anyway.

Simple, since you're a warrior.. go farm Fissure forest & spiders for shards

Ecto's => dual farming UW here

I spent lots of times in LA1/DF1 to sell, 15k profit each item adds up

I like the FoW armour for the ranger and plan on getting that one day. As far as I can tell, farming, chest runs and trading good loot are the best way of earning the gold. Farming places for the ectos and shard, or get gold to buy from someone else or the trader. Playing the game normally and following the story will not give you what you need for these luxuries. After seeing my gold balance take a big hit after buying some 15K glads, I've spent my remaining hard earned gold on a 55Hp monk setup. When I take timeout from the story and from exploring areas, I'm going farming.....E-I-E-I-OOOOooooooo!!!

Mmkay, thanks for that advice about farming in the fissure, but I only have 6k gold to my name, and it's kind of costly doing that. I can do the whole fissure spiders thing, but not well enough to make it worth the time and gold. In other words, 1.5 hours per trip with a couple shards total as my best pull from that is not good. I do better with griffons.

Any other farming spots besides the UW and fissure? Don't think it's a good idea to try to make a 55 monk either, by the time I manage to they'll probably change the skills for that again and make it hard to impossible to use.

Ettin runs are really nice with abit of luck on your side, there's also icy dragon sword solo runs. Although their price are dropping alot, but it's still high enough for some nice money. Buy low, sell high.

Running, farming, playing. Then not rushing into buying at high prices.

Essentailly, time is gold, and you need to get the best out of both. If I have sufficient time, I run. If not, I go on a quick farming jaunt.

Sometimes, I even play the game

Yeah, setting up a 55Hp monk takes time and money to begin with. Prices for the monk sup. runes are pretty high.

There are a number of threads on farming locations or builds for specific areas. These are the most popular ones at the moment:

Griffons/Minotaurs @ Augury Rock
Hydras @ Augury Rock
Trolls outside Droknar Forge
Grawls outside Port Sledge
Ettins in North Kryta Province
Ice Imps @ Mineral Springs (for IDS)

Other ways of making money, running to places, running missions for people. Maybe you could try scamming people.

In theory, GW rewards player skill more than time played (read: grind). In practice, FoW armor isn't a reward for players who actually play the game, it's a reward for grinders, farmers and ebayers. Old news really.

Let's hope ANet can implement better rewards for PvE players who are not interested in mindnumbing grinding/farming.

A bit of rune-farming and some good trades and a bit of luck and you're there. I made 400k the 1st day the new PvE tombs oppended as my 1st and 2nd run resulted in victo's sword and axe. Similar story with candy canes..

But noone belives me as I'm a monk anyways..

i haven't got my while set of fow necro but ive got the top and gloves and i can afford the leggings but all the forgemaster groups suck .

Anyway i got my ectos by running, farming UW a bit and cashing in on the new topk greens when they were worth quite a bit.

Milk any and all new crazes.

When Sorrow's Furnace greens were hot, farm them like hell and sell for high prices.

IDS was hot - farm them during the first week.

Wintersday season - stock up on Candy Canes and sell high later.

Tombs UW - farm for new greens (particularily Victo's) and sell for @_@ prices for the first week.

do what I'am doing...Farm n00bs...What i mean is, every time u see anyone saying: "selling gold items for 1.5k each" go check them...i bought a 1.5k bow from someone, and sold the max fortitude upgrade it had for 40k...i find its quite quick, and the best is u can do that and while u have the auction posted, u can still farm...griffon farming is good, but i find it more fun to farm the UW...

well, i guess it's finally time to let people know how i've made my cash. I've stocked up about 500k in 3 weeks time. First thing i had to do, save up about 100k with just plain old farming, anything. that was the first 2 and a half weeks. Then, i just bought low and sold high. and i mean, bought REALLY low and sold REALLY high. for example, stumbled on a req 9 15>50 chaos axe for 250k, sold for 500k ish. won't give exacts, but you get the idea. Seems like being a good businessman/woman will make you rich in this game.

EDIT: i know i said i saved up 100k, and the chaos axe was 250k, but i did other buy lows sell highs between that. Now i'm working on crystallines. heh. my secret is out. oh no.

i've farmed worms for shells hydras griffins ettins 2 man uw for ectos good loot for greens in sf and fow
the fow spider run is about 45 to 55 mins per run average 2 to 5 shards keys 12 to 16 spider legs @ 60 per all the white bows and staffs savage you get tons of wood ( wood is a good seller or make parchment and sell )sell the rest to merchant so this run is very profitable

Tombs UW - farm for new greens (particularily Victo's) and sell for @_@ prices for the first week. Yes, yes, and yes! I farmed for the silly IDS when they first came out and sold two for 50-70k each. Victo's Bulwark dropped for me a few days after the update, sold it for 100k+20 ecto. Same with the other "new" greens, wash, rinse, repeat. Salvage anything and everything that you get as drops on farming runs and sell off the materials.

Running is (very) profitable. I was able to buy four sets of 15k armor and expensive Vigor/Absorption runes to go with each set with the money I made running Ascalon City -> Henge of Denravi/desert areas or the infamous Droknar's Forge run. (Forge run isn't so profitable now for me.)

And then I took the money that I made from farming greens/running and bought ecto cheap. (This was right at the time when everyone was selling and ecto prices had dropped to abnormal lows.) <3 Monk FoW armor

Let's hope ANet can implement better rewards for PvE players who are not interested in mindnumbing grinding/farming. I couldn't agree more with this statement, I would rather do some very hard missions or
quests to get a great item rather than farming myself to death, I mainly farm for the
challenge now. When I first saw FoW armor I thought man I am gonna get that, then I found out it requires around 2mil in gold and materials and that took the wind right out of my sails, instead I just made an awesome weapon collection and had fun completing the game three times with a Ranger, Warrior, and Ele.

I farmed UW lots and lots and lots... as well as many FoW clear runs... I also open every chest in UW and FoW and in the Southern Shiverpeaks...

I found a Req 8 15^50% Chaos Axe sold for 83ecto.. also there was a chest which didn't move outside of the Citadel which I could run to.. every 10k in keys yelded me a Superior Absorption Run not to mention TONS and TONS of perfect Mods and wicked gold items.. too bad they moved this chest.. but this is how I made my money..

This may be a bit off kilter, but since it seems like I'm the only one that does it I'll share the info.

I have both halves of the 2-man UW team, a 55 monk and an SS/SV necro. Every time I go down there I collect half the ecto and all of the glittering dust that drops (provided my partner is amenable to giving his up). Salvage all of the demonic remainse, etc.

I then take my 55 monk out hydra farming. Those guys drop max/non-max white staves all over the place. Every one of them gets salvaged for wood.

Once I have a stack or two of each I pass them off to my warrior (equipped for running) and send him out of Maguuma Stade towards the crafter over there.

I currently have enough Vellum and cash for my FoW Monk armor, and I'm still stockpiling vellum for sale on the weekends.

Outside of that I come across some halfway decent drops from UW/Griff farming, but selling that stuff is nowhere near reliable.

I whould say farm FoW spiders and griffens. UW if you can solo it. Its hard but works. Griffens are the best from my point got my FoW armor in 3 weeks from when i said i want it. Even tho i had Monk. War still works but takes around 1-2 more mins.

The best of luck to you ^^

Sorry for off topic, but where is the easiest place to find a trader with all of the rare crafting materials (not the ones in outposts (or the one outside of sardelac)). I know there is one in the salt flats, is there an easier place?

Drok runs are great for money (~15k in 25 minutes), although they take a lot of practice to complete them consistently. They also don't need much start-up cash, just a Warrior with Drok's armor, and preferably a major absorption or better.

So far, I've been soloing/two-man-teaming UW for the ecto's and doing your run of the mill FOW runs with whichever character I want to play. I've got 28 ecto and 24 shards. Only 2 of the ecto were given to my by a guildie, everything else I have "earned"-meaning they were all drops, I haven't bought any.

With prices these days, I could farm hydra's and make enough to buy them all within a couple weeks time...but there is just some personal satisfaction with knowing that I earned my FOW armor. Even if no-one else in game knows and they all assume I Ebayed for it. I know, that's what matters.

I suppose I could have my armor by now, except for that pesky little side-effect of actually playing the game (4 characters completed so far). I can only farm for so long before I go off on other activities.

the best way to get fow armor is to get good in pvp and farm hall of heroes. I got my fissure that way. ^^
One of my best weeks i got was around 20 sigils and gold items in one week which is like roughly 500k or so.

Farming greens have netted me well over 2mil in gold and I only had a measely 60~80K in storage before I started doing FA runs. I haven't had the heart to rip into my gold cache to buy myself fissure armor (yet) but whoever said to milk the newest hottest craze is right.

Currently, SF greens are next to worthless.
IDS runs are far from being profitable due to the decreased drop rate and the time consuming nature of the run.
Tombs farming CAN be good if it lands you a Victo's Bulwark but again, it's highly time consuming and the other greens that are dropped are hardly worth the effort as well.

The first 100K is the most difficult to earn. The rest comes in easily if you're good at trading. =)

Ok, no wrong answer here...here is my methods...I have had my warrior fissure set for quite some time now and have several millions on top of that right now.

First of all, solo monk IMHO is an absolute must...Why? Well, they can solo almost everything, and yes I mean almost everything all over Tyria. I use mo/war and I never have to change secondary proffession, I farm out of the way places...such as black curtain, or the villainy quest (hill giants included) , or inferno imps in Talmark, forest minos, you name it, I farm it with my monk, fog nightmares are awesome just outside TOA, as are the 9 or 12 tengu elites. Some tips, change mobs and areas alot, always carry a sup ident and sup salvage kit, salvage everything, sell wood at 10 gold each, when charcoal drops from the inferno imps, go craft deld steel, this is huge profit, buy low on high demand perfect mods...zealous axe and sword mods are very nice. I really believe people underestimate what farming weird areas can provide, everyone thinks UW and FoW are the be all end all, they are great but not the only place to go, materials can make you tons of gold very fast, I spend very little time selling anything...once you get the hang of farming with your invinci monk, the world is yours to discover and I use the same build for pretty much everything. Good luck and if you have any more questions about specifics I will be happy to help...oh ya, one more thing which I feel is huge, I hear people all the time say a farm run longer than 10 minutes is no good, I disagree big time, I go on runs that can last 1-1.5 hours, but I clear several zones which does wonders for anti bot farm codes And the net gold gain is well worth the time

Farm Hall of Heroes with Spirit Spam, could hold about 50times. Imagine the Sigils and Weapons you get from That ^^ When Sigils were worth 60k Each, you could make 750k from 1 run.

I got my Fissure Armour from couple of reasons, I basically bought perfect weapons of people for cheap back in May/June time. The times when ppl in EU didn't know what perfect weapons meant. And Partially I got my armour because of the EU market Crash 4tw! I wish the market would fluctuate like that more often, miss them days
Bah! Sorrows Furnace put me out of business, as soon as people start realising what perfect weapons look like, Traders lose all there Custom..

Well my necro fissure:

Lucky buy, bought a 15>50 req 8 shadow in frontier gate (???) for around 30k, obviously sold for alot more (exact price cant remember, but it was a fair few ecto)

Then i farmed griffons constantly for around a week (1.30 hours a night say), this was to purchase my Necro fissure. During this time i made alot selling axe's and swords' from drops.

My next fissure (not complete yet) is my Mesmer, farming constant trolls + griffons for about 1- 2 weeks (1.5 hours a night etc). Few Drok runs here and there, then got a lucky 11>50 Crystaline from teh old strongbox. This bumped me up slightly, still got a few ecto to go now, should have my second set soon. This will be my last set, unless i get a drop worth 105 ecto + 105 shards :P.

All in all, my first set was mainly due to the shadow bow purchase, with not *that* much farming, my second set was half and half.
These people with 4 sets plus either had a few lucky drops, or they ebay, but i dont accuse everyone of ebaying like some people on here do.

Farmed most of the ectos needed to make Monk and Ranger FoW through solo 55 monking, then to 55 and SS. Farmed Tombs a few times when it came out and speeded up the process (30 Ecto for Victo's Bulwark to complete Ranger's set).
