really depends on the spike.

An OotV/OoP Ranger spike focuses the ranger attributes onto Marksmanship and Expertise with skills that increase your damage but don't change your damage type from physical.

A Kindle spike relies upon the kindle prep for the spike damage so you would want Wilderness as high as possible along with conjure flame.

The typical 3 attacks for the actual spike though are

dualshot, punishing or quick shot, savage shot

I say punishing or quick because of the aftercast to interrupts. Punishing gives you a dmg bonus in the attack based upon your marksmanship but has a 1.5 second (give or take) pause at the end. Quickshot fires nearly as fast as punishing shot and has no aftercast like an interrupt, but doesn't do extra damage. One allows you to get off 3 arrows during an order spike with a damage bonus and an interrupt on one attack, the other gives you 4 arrows with no damage bonus (still an interrupt though).

The question is, is your damage coming from the arrows, or from the orders?

Spike normally refers to a team build. Ranger spike is normally, Read the wind, dual shot, punishing shot, savage shot with a favorable wind spirit. If you are starting out as a ranger, just get a bit of everything and learn interrupting and trapping technique. Spiking is the easiest ranger activity, so learn to handle some of the tougher stuff and you'll be more than ready for 1,2,3 spike!

Depends on what setting you're talking, and who you're talking to. If you mean 4v4, most people go Kindle Arrows, since you're usually the only ranger spiking. However, in an 8v8 setting, most people go Orders, and therefore they bring Read the Wind. As for the "right" number of rangers to run; that's always been up for debate. Some people say 4, others say 3. Although there's no "real" answer, I will say this: it's much easier to coordinate 3 people than 4. Keep that in mind.

And yes, it's usually, "3, 2, 1, Spike". Although some people insist on spiking on the "1". And "Spike" constitutes Dual Shot + Punishing Shot, generally, although in certain extenuating circumstances, it could be Dual Shot + Savage Shot.
