I would just like to know (if possible from an Anet source Gaile/Alex).

Will there be a GW: Factions Prima Guide?

I still enjoy the 1st one. Would like to get the 2nd if its in the works.

(checked Primagames themselves, ofcourse, it still might be too early at this time. nothing about this there.)

(basically asking bcuz there was alot of "critics" about the 1st one, and will they improve how they compile this one bcuz of the feedback from that.)
/fenx.

It would be cool to go the route of WoW and have Brady make an online guide that would be constantly updated... but honestly I don't know if the changes in guild wars are big enough to warrant one. maybe someone should just make an unofficial guide that would be updated and printable to fit in a 3 ring binder....

"Not big enough to warrant one"?! I would say that close to a majority of skills now are different than they were at release. Along with all the new features, new areas, new/removed armors, new items, new monsters... How is there not enough to update? If you've actually looked at/own the Prima guide, you know how full of BS it is. An online one from Brady would be much better, especially since we wouldn't get a million people saying things like "No, you're wrong noob, I have the guide and it says there is a Fort Koga/Adept's armor/whatever."

basically if they do it will be a update of the existing one with corrections, and new maps and expanded character class skill sections... Something like Guild Wars Chapter 1 & 2 Guide... that is if they go with their traditional pattern on such things...

Also expect this guide to be out about 4 to 6 weeks after Factions release... IF they are doing it. This was about the time frame for the release after Chapter 1 launch...

I dont know why people throw money at these guides. Simply going to websites like this or gamefaqs is free and tends to be more accurate in the long run.

Weren't they tossing those guides out for free during the last E3? In fact after the show they were just tossing them straight into the trash.

I thought I read somewhere that ANet is writing the strategy guide this time. I'm pretty sure it was either in an faq or, more likely, a Gaile chat log.

Most guides nowadays just cram in a bunch of random filler crap so they can hit the shelf near the same time as the game as possible.

Because people buy them .... OF COURSE there will be.

It will additionally be just as useless as every other guide made to anyone that sticks with a game long enough to be knowledgable in the first place though.

Moral of the story: save your money and enjoy the game or else write your own guide and make mucho denero yourself

Just like someone said, "it'll be obselete in a month." This forum is the Prima Guide as far as I'm concerned.

If want to use Prima, go play Nintendo or something where the game doesn't change and micro-evolve like GW.

Your suppose to be able to buy an electronic version and get "updates" to it..... http://www.primagames.com/strategy/book/update/7058/
and if they update it, you get to buy it again

I would never buy an electronic version when I have great resourcs as forums and guildwiki. I dont think there eletronics sales are so hot for any guide.

looking into it, I wouldn't buy an e-book then buy the update, no. Now the brady games would be a good idea. Th e biggest problem with any guides is the the writer, just played enough to know the bassics.

For isnstace in the Divinity Coast, the guide says the save villager a, b ,c d, and e. Nowhere in the guide does it say that the aformentioned villagers like to stand in poision water. Or in Sancum Cay bonus, while you are taking the ghost home the mantle may be killing the vizzier, the guides are good for maps but that's about it, but guildwiki has maps and guides, is free and written by players. I will stick with guildwiki from here

Yeah, it's better to just trust in the online resources that you have because the prima guides are always limited in info. Once you have updates, your guides become useless.

I'm pretty sure I read the same thing.

Anyways, its nice to have the guide so I don't have to play in window mode 100% of the time and switch to the forums every three seconds to look something up. I also enjoy books in general, and the strategy guide can actually be a nice read when going on long trips, trying to think of new builds (whether the skills are still correct or not, it still gets the general build across) I also use it to plan out my next character, like oh yeah this skill looks nice, flip the page, ooooo that skill looks better, I guess I'll be going for an Illusion Mesmer then.

The guide wasn't that bad, and I plan on buying this one too.

If's like anything like the guide for the first one - it will be virtually useless even before it hits the shelves. The first guide was so riddled with plain old errors and outdated information it certainly wasn't worth the $20 price tag.

Better and more relevant information, including more detailed maps, can be had from the many dozens of GW fansites on the web.

Or you could just print the stuff on forums out and get the same effect. Why buy a book that will be obselete within one month of game play?

Again (as Vilaptca stated), simply some people enjoy books in general, and the strategy guide can actually be a nice read when going on long trips, trying to think of new builds...I am the same way.

I like the guide for the visuals+info. I am not "online" all the time when I want to do something GW related, and when I play GW I never like to alt+tab. so im fine with the book.

So, it's really a personal choice.

The so little amount of obsolete information in the book isn't enough for me to bother buying a printer.

And like I already said, I like to have the book, and I listed my reasons, did you not read my post?

Use the printer attached to your computer. Now your dilema is over and you spent pennies on ink and paper by comparison.

It is common knowledge already that you can make your own "guides" to all existing games w/ the free info online.

Thread is not about that.

(some ppl want to turn it into "errors of ch.1 guide" or poll: "Who here doesnt want the guide, bcuz we have the forums".)
I already know the past threads about these, I dont really want to dig those up and bump those bcuz im interested for new info.

(weird though, there is a rise of old thread bumpages here @ gurus...)

/thank you.

Added: I do enjoy suggestions/comments, post whatever you like ofcourse, but again, plz keep in mind that the thread is not about "convincing" players to get or not to get the guide. We all know the answers.

Added: thankz for the update Gaile.

Added: I didnt make "old or bad arguments". There wasnt any arguments til ppl started "ignoring previous responses and the point of the thread before posting"...

There will be a strategy guide for Guild Wars, and this time, we're writing it ourselves. We'll have a company publish the book, of course, but the authors will be on the Guild Wars team this time, rather than external writers. There are more than 20 people involved in the production of the guide, those most on a part-time basis, of course.

We'll be sure to provide a publication or shelf date when one is available.

Thanks for the info Gaile, and a much relieved sigh I heave. The second guide may be well worth getting in that case - I just hope the game will be worth it as well!!
