Account theft?

Hi! My friend recently bought a blank Guild Wars account from eBay because it was a good deal ($15). He got login and password but no CD Key. The seller and my friend confirmed email change. I want to know if it's possible for the person with the CD Key to recall the account. Is it possible for the person (seller) with the CD Key to email NCSoft, give them the CD Key, and ask them to reset the account back to the seller?

I do believe that is against the EULA.

yup

he will claim that the hard drive failed and he doesnt remember the email or password he used but he has the receipt and can even fax or mail them the cd lable with the key.

tell your *FRIEND* (why the person who did it always has a friend that is more worried than they are beats me) that it is not a good idea to ebay an account

Yes - this is breaking EULA BTW.

If you challenge an account, anet will want cd key or proof of the cd key.
Now if they do "take" back the account. You could send all the info to Anet and it will most likely get banned.

Someone did mention it was possible to change ownership but in EULA but it involves contacting Anet directly - not the ebay way.

have you ever seen anything like this happening in gw or are you just basing this on some other company's policy? I checked the support and found this:

"Should you not receive your new password within 24 hours, please contact the Guild Wars Support Team via the "Ask a Question" tab. (Please be sure to include your 25-digit access key and the e-mail address currently associated with your Guild Wars game account in the message you send to the support team.)"

They claim they want email and cdkey. What if they don't know the email?

Not sure,I would ask a generic question to support and see how there reply if you don't have the e-mail.

he says

i had to replace my hard drive which had all my information including which email i used but here is the store receipt and the cd key i used to activate my account.

also my name is xxxxxxxxxx which i gave along with my address xxxxxxxxxxx at the same time

you say you bought it from ebay (against Anet rules) and have no proof you bought it.

who will they believe?

Finally got response from support. I've tried resetting my password using my cdkey and another email. I told them I forgot my password and my original email. Here's what they said:

Thank you for providing that information. In researching the access key you provided, we have found that it is registered to an e-mail address that is different from the one you are contacting us from. Unfortunately, due to security reasons, we cannot disclose the e-mail address that is associated with the account. However, I can tell you that it is not similar to the address you are currently contacting us from, and has a Gmail domain name. So that we can confirm the correct e-mail address associated with your account, please send us a list of any Gmail accounts you may have.

Guess that answers my question.
