I want to change my Secondary NOW, can it be done?

Ok, im only lvl 18, i have obviously not "ascended", but im really sick of my secondary profession and want to switch it before i do any more missions. Is this possible? Can i just walk to the cities where the quests are? Or do i have to finish all of the missions first/ascend/etc. ? I've searched through old posts, but they don't specify if this is possible before ascension.

i want a Ferrari now but i cant have one yet either =(
But seriously NO u cant until you ascend and even then you have to perform quests that are found in out of the way towns in the desert.

There are some threads I've read here where people have bemoaned the fact they got owned by a Mes. Look them up.

*shrug* just an opinion guy, no need to get all bent out of shape. It does not fit my playing style, and i do not do any PvP.

I wasn't slamming you. Just wanted to put it into perspective. Each class has some obvious strengths and weaknesses. It's finding something that'll work for you. You apparently don't like how Mesmer plays (which is all good and fine), but I just wanted to point out some benefits to using that class.
As for PvP vs. PvE, Mes is great for weakening tough bosses or single opponents. Backfire can help take down casters, Empathy can weaken melee, and Shatter Hex can help keep you alive long enough to reap the benefits.
Like I said, just wanted to encourage you to take a little more heart in trying it out. (Tho, at lvl 18 I suppose you've already tried a lot.)
No hard feelings...

Heck... my mesmer/warrior combo seems to be pretty powerful for PVE (dunno about pvp yet) and I have tried a ton of different combos.

Mesmer is one of the more difficult pve based classes. I have a mes/ran and tend to stick with the ranger skills for the dmg. Mesmer isn't going to shine until you get into PVP, but as you said you do not PVP. So, you will be depending on your other class more than anything for killing pve mobs. Mesmer is very situational and that is where it kills some people. I have just started getting good skills to do dmg. Most people say that domination is the way to go if you want something that does dmg.

Mesmer is a GREAT secondary, cause every one of the 3 skill sets is useful to some profession.
As a monk, my favorite is inspiration, but the others are so good, i love to switch back and forth using all the skills and having fun with them. I REALLY like the inspired hex spell... not only does it remove a hex from an ally and gives you back extra energy, but for 20 seconds, you steal it and use it, whether you know it or not. I steal hexes all the time and turn it around on them... this really frustrates people and it works great on mobs too.
Imagine getting hit with a health degeneration hex (or some other nasty one), only to be removed, stolen and used back on your enemy, and I never even had it in my toolbar until I inspired it . Heh.
Just one of MANY useful and fun tricks up the mesmer's sleeve.

when do you get these mes skills? I haven't seen them yet.
