* Fixed an exploit that could allow players to bring high-level items into pre-Searing Ascalon

Finally... an end to the madness (and threads).

But I'm going to assume that those with the items still have them?

since it's fixed: in presear -> join observer mode -> use guild display button to enter guildhall -> get items from guildmate -> use guild display button to go back to presear

people abusing this exploit deserve a 24h ban

I have to disagree - i never did it once, hell i didn't hear about it til right now, but they weren't actually 'cheating', they did take advantage of the game but they dont deserve to be banned for it. If I'm playing a hockey game and find an easy way to score and do it over and over, the devs have every right to fix it, but they can't ban me for it; its their fault it was there in the first place and i'm just playing the game.

Anet banned some accounts (less than 10) permanently for exploiting a doppleganger-bug to get insane amounts of xp. It didn't effect other players, but they got banned. This exploit effects other players (money influx into presear useful to buy up more black dye), why should cheaters remain unharmed?

"OMG I'M SUCH A HACKER I GOT A FIERY DRAGON SWORD NOW I AM COOL BUT A EVIL HACKER"

"gee I don't have anything better in post "

Lets not forget that pre-searing ppls are not the richest ppl in the world.....

There you are WRONG. It's against the EULA and ROC (Rules of Conduct) to exploit game bugs, loopholes, flaws, etc and they are fully covered to suspend or ban you if you do so. This isn't a case of "Oh I can do anything I want and if it's exploiting a loophole then it's ok for me to do it because the game makers shouldn't have allowed it in the first place." This is a case of "Oh there is an exploit but I better not do it as it's against the rules."

So as you can see they have *EVERY* right to suspend or ban people who exploited this bug/loophole. Doing so breached the rules of conduct, which is an offense which is a suspendable offense if ANet decide to make it so.

It certainly wasnt the ability to pwn presear that made the exploit noticeable.

It was those ppl that thought, they could actually sell postsear items and make a profit from presear players. (ie. WTS BAGS for etc.)

/amusing nonetheless.

/delt w/ pretty fast.

I 2nd the motion: kudos to Anet.

If they hadn't fixed it I wouldn't have believed it. I havent been in pre-sear in almost a year, so whatever.

And no, just because you could do it doesn't mean you its ok for you to do it. It's obvious to any bozo that is not how the game is supposed to work. Thats why it's called an exploit. It's taking advantage of a bug or error in the game to circumvent the rules of the game.

The people who did this don't deserve any more sympathy than those who exploited the Doppleganger.

And although I imagine the items are still in pre-sear, they'll eventually vanish as people customize them to their characters and move to post-searing. Either way, no one would really have more than a couple of hundred gold to purchase anything. It's a stupid way to make money anyways.

Some people just want to make a lvl 20 Pre-Searing character a little faster.

Some people were trying to sell the items to newbies in pre-sear, although I honestly don't see how someone who is actually new to the game will have 3k to buy a Bag.

I never once saw GuildHall in my Guild roster window when in presearing although I ddn't press G in Observer mode either.Oh well I think it would of been fun though maybe just to the hall only no where else. This might of helped in recriuting as some in pre say they have hall but maybe they are working on it.

If builders built buildings the way programmers write programs, the first woodpecker to come along would destroy civilization.

That said, they should still fix the holes they find.

That is EXACTLY the kind of thinking that leads to stuff like this in the first place.

You still get arrested for tresspassing even if they left the door unlocked and a window open.

The fact of the matter is people explioted a bug that CLEARLY went aganist the design of the game, so your breaking the rules which makes you a cheater, which makes you bannable blah blah blah.

You should read what kind of stuff gets you in trouble before you say stuff like that.
