Is this a common 4-man PvP build?

I started PvPing today and when I got to Team battle I teamed up with two Me/Mo's and a Mo/N (I'm an N/Me). Anyways I was just using a little mixed up build I'd been using in Random Arena, but I added in Soul barbs because they told me to. Anyways, what I generally did was casted Soul barbs, then SS, and for some reason they dropped like flies. I asked the two Mesmers what they were doing and they said they were spamming Wastrel's on whoever I soul barbed.

This seemed incredibly effective to me. You shut them out of healing themselves with SS (and we later added backfire) and then use Soul Barbs + Wastrel's to do insane damage (especially with fast casting).

I'm kind of a noob, but is that a very common build or did we find something?

its not very common, but if you had 2 mesmers spamming WW on whoever you soul barbed i could see the damage adding up fast... though it woulld be fast but small spikes, i dont see how a monk couldnt keep up with it
