Wastrel's Worry buff needed....
xb0vv
After 3 seconds, target foe takes 8-53 damage. Wastrel's Worry ends prematurely if that foe uses a skill.
5 energy
1/4 seconds cast
recharge 1 seconds
Hex Spell
Domination
Sure its 5 energy, and fast cast, and only 1 second recharge, but whats the point in having such a fast recharge if you have to wait 3 seconds for damage.
You cast it, and as soon as your foe uses a skill it ends w/o causing any damage - in my opinion one of the worst skills in the game.
I agree there are many ways to use this skill, perhaps soul barbs + wastrel spam, but ive tried it and been disapointed in the lack of dmg. Also ive tried wastrels + shatter delusions, but once again the build dies due to recharge of shatter.
My proposal:
Make wastrels 2 seconds until foe takes dmg instead of 3, or at least change it to 'Wastrel's Worry ends prematurely if that foe uses a SPELL.
Otherwise, this skill is pointless and when i see a foe using it on me i just laugh because he is wasting his time, energy and a space in his skill bar.

If you were to change it to the only spells option you could keep up a constant 60damage every 3 seconds on some builds since they have no skills. Whilst it may not be good alone it can work well in conjunction to diversion, powerblock/any interupts, someone blacked out by another monk, backfire, spiteful spirit. It works excellently with any hex which work by disuading people to do anything since it forces them to use a skill activating blackout or whatever or take 60 damage. You can also usually get it off on a charging warrior assuming they don't uses a stance or shout which many wont till they get up close.

If hex removal wasnt so prevalent, it would work very will with Backfire. Its not supposed to be the kind of skill that you construct a build around. The damage should be buffed slightly though, or perhaps a secondary effect should be added.

WW is atypical for a mesmer spell. It is inexpensive and almost direct damage...nothing else like it in the profession. Obviously it is meant to be used to add damage to a shutdown build, set up an interrupt or cap backfire. In that sense it could be more powerful if was 5 second length.
Give the skill another whirl with that in mind. If you want direct damage go to any other profession.

At times I actually find this skill to be almost over-powered. Try using it on bosses in PvE and see what happens. It takes the 3 seconds down to 1.5 therefore allowing and almost constant stream of 60 dmg spikes of of WW which makes some huge dents in enemy hp. Plus it's great for a cover hex if you see a monk trying to Remove/Smite Hex on their teammates, with the quick recast and low energy it's great for that sort of thing. For my Mes, WW is practically a staple skill in my loadouts. In PvP try using it on a caster in conjunction with Backfire. If they cast a spell they take massive damage from BF and if they don't do anything, you get to sit happily clicking away doing 60 dmg every 3 seconds. Maybe use it as quick spike hex for Shatter Delusions? Use it to goad players in wasting energy and skills trying to get rid of the hex?
In my opinion WW is a fantastic vastly underrated skill that every mesmer should at least take a second look at. Just my two cents though

In PvP, try it on any warrior who's got his helmet hidden. He's likely wearing the HoD helmet which halves hex duration = 60 damage after 1.5 seconds, spammable as fast as you can cast.

.. I would've thought that would have been disabled. Considering helmets describe what manner of equipment the person is using on their head, why -is- this hidden?
SaintGreg
Its hidden because they choose to hide it. It wouldn't be very smart to go around advertising that you were wearing the HoD helm would it? Especially considering it is so recognizable.
I think the damage from wastrels worry is about right. Compare it to the damage from power spike and its more damage for the energy, which seems right because power spike is interrupt as well. Compared to shatter delusions its only slightly less, but you have to have a hex on them meaning you spent at least 5 energy beforehand, and its more spammable than shatter, so for the straight damage wastrels seems about right.

Try using it on a boss, or a warrior with Leutenants Helm. Your opinion will change. Also, your not a nuker, the damage is really greaaaat, if you made it any better, you could kill anything in like 5 seconds

Anyway, WW is a good skill... I don't see the need for a buff. The damage is great and it's pretty spammable. Good against bosses and Lt. Helm Wars alike.

i love WW

i call it shutdown

I use it with an energy denial build and I think it works very well. If I've drained their energy it's like "Well shit" because it takes about 4 seconds for five energy which would be the minimum to get most skills off, if I haven't drained their energy they drain it and get smacked by mind wrack. Great skill and it can really help to manipulate the enemy into doing what you want him to do.

As for WW I think it should have maybe a 15% damage increase so people will have more incentive to use it, the reason "To counter Lt. Helm" is pretty weak.

WW = cover hex with benefits. Check out some non-mesmer hexes and you'll be on your way to learning about my spike build.

You can easily spam it between multiple enemies, and when you are attacking people with armor that makes hexes last not as long, especially bosses and warriors, it hits hard. Not to mention you can get it up to do a lot more damage with a minor rune and mask and maybe even a superior if you so desire.
