Did I make a mistake here?

Ok I just ID'ed an item that gave me the msg "item unlocked bla bla bla"
(see screen shot)

Anyhow I used an expert salvage kit on it hoping to get a rune but ended up with a bolt of silk. Did I do the right thing here or should I have done something else with it?

You dont always get a rune you have a chance to get the rune otherwise its a normal purple salvage piece so your usually either gonna get a rune or a rare crafting material.

Yeh believe me I know wat its like Ive gotten 3 major rune salvage pieces and no runes just rare crap.

Ouch sry to hear that. After you confirmed that I was doing the right thing I salvaged another item I was saving and got a rune of viggor. So I got real lucky. Good luck to you And thanks again!

Boo, i've used an expert salvage tool on 3 items that each gave me a 'you've unlocked blah of blah' message - just got materials from all of them!
