The first area (pre searing) is just a training area, you wont miss anything other than the scenery by moving onto the main area (post searing).
If your a ranger you should really be using a bow with ranger skills, for ranger the best use of the elementalist secondary profession is enchantments like conjure flame to boost damage, but for the time being your best of sticking to just ranger skills.
Before leaving ascalon its usually a good idea to pick up all skills for your primary profession atleast, also if its your first time round the game its good idea to do all quests you can find.

I agree with divinus, once you leave pre- using your bow, either fire, lightning you'll want to get and use conjure flame or lightning for that added extra dmg. and concentrate like divinus said on your primary profession then later on adjust accordingly(sp?) by mixing in the either conjure ok..best of luck to you and have fun with it. I to am a r/ele it's alot of fun to play.

ok i have all skills for both of my professions. and im using a bow for ranger skills. but i dont completely get the other things u guys said. conjure? lightning? i dont get that. are there lightning bows and what not? im lost. ( i feel like such a noob)

Later on in the game (about Kryta I think) you can start to find enchantment spells, known as Conjure *element*. For the 'Conjure' spells of your Elementalist secondary, you must use a bow that is either Fiery, for Conjure Flame; Icy for Conjure Frost; or Shocking for Conjure Lightning. That way, when you cast the enchantment 'Conjure X' and you are wielding a bow of the corresponding element 'X', you will do extra damage.
Also, there is no 'Conjure' spell for Earth.

would it be ok for me to use things like earth staff, fire staff, etc etc for elementalist? thats like that main thing im looking for.
Stormlord Alex
If you mean that you want to be a Ranger who casts Ele spells rather than attacking with your bow or pet... I'd say go Elementalist primary. Generally, stick to bows.

You could indeed pick up a staff to boost your energy and skill recarge/casting. However, this is not really recommended. While you are certainly free to play your character however you want, most people would advise you to use a bow (and thus, the appropriate ranger skills), since you are first and foremost a ranger.

Or be a beastmaster. ^^ Goodnight.
fiery
Or a trapper.

You won't get traps for a while.
The main advantage of being a ranger primary is for your expertise attribute. Expertise is amazing for making certain skills cost less energy. Here's the rub. Most elementalist skills are classified as spells, which expertise doesn't affect.
If you're really interested in the elementalist line of skills, it's probably better to make an elementalist. Their proprietary attribute is energy storage, which gives you a much larger energy pool. That's good, because many elementalist spells are quite costly.
I played an R/E. I generally filled my skillbar with ranger skills, as the ranger class is very well rounded. When I got to certain quests that would benefit from an ele skill or two, I would add them to my skillbar. With the way both classes are designed, I think you will have the most success playing this way. Most rangers you will talk to will tell you that they fill most or all of their skillbar with ranger skills. If you try to play your ranger as an ele, you will probably feel limited by the energy pool you have to work with.
I think a good way to look at any secondary profession is as a set of supporting skills, not an equal profession to jump back and forth from.
That said, play your character the way that feels best to you. I would wait until level 7 to leave pre, though. Have fun.

The resear spiders are by Fort Ranik. Go out, and go to the left, and spiders will fall out of the trees (this is during the Basket of Apples quest thingy)
pkodyssey
you can get those outside Ft Ranick near where you did the basket of apples quest. I forget the name off hand.
Just go straight out the door of Ft Ranik, spiders will drop outta trees

i got it. i guess that that would be all for now. before i leave, and tips and/or tricks you guys have?
Kai Nui
Did you get the skill point from that devona quest? I'd do all the quests you can.
Swampgirl Inez
As a ranger, make sure you have spoken to Aiden before you leave. I made the mistake of forgetting about him until right before I left pre-sear.
I almost missed out on the fiery arrows. He will also give you a quest which takes you through a bunch of spiders.

There's actually a skill checklist that can help you make sure you have every skill before leaving. Very handy.
SnoopJeDi
If you're asking, you're ready. There's not much you can "miss" by going to post-sear. The skills can be bought/rewarded, and the items (aside from Black Dye of course) aren't anything to write home about.
ConeHead2467
ok guys. so then before i leave i still need the dual shot and fiery arrows. where do i get those? and for an update, heres a screenshot of how im doing so far. and i have to say, im pretty rich.

Just go post-searing now.... the 'real game' begins then tbh, as does most of the fun. And it means u can pvp in ascalon arena.
And as for skills.... as people have said you get given them or can buy them for pretty cheap.
PS - I'm not seeing Res Sig there in your skill bar.... everyone should have Res Sig

Look at it this way...
I recently started a R/E, I use Favorable winds, Read the wind, Conjure Lightning, and then whatever attack you wish...
Read the wind is up ta you, if you'd rather kindle arrows, be my guest...
But all together By lvl 10ish, with Fav winds, RtW, conjure lightning/flame you should be doing about +20ish on top of the damage you already do default.

Don't bother wasting time levelling up to 8... just go searing asap and do every mission u get given. fastest way to level by far
ConeHead2467
alright, so i had 2 quests left. did them and they actually made it to level 8! ![Smile](../Img/smile.gif)
now ill be going to post in a little bit.
OH, and one more question, how much would i be able to sell a purple item for? its a sword incase the value differs from diff. weapons.
