i am at lions arch, how far am i in the game?

You've got a long way to go. Not taking into account quests and the different lengths and difficulties of each mission, you're a little further than a quarter of the way through.

guessing...map-wise about 1/4
time-wise about 1/10th?

lion's arch can be reached in about one day of game-play.

but then some people spend the better part of a week trying to do the ascension missions and beat their mirror self. then some people spend another few days stuck at thunderhead keep.

Then there's the fire islands to explore.
And if you ever want any elites you can spend alot of time hunting those down.

To me, the end of pve marks the beginning of pvp, and once you get into pvp that can consume tons of time.

map-wise it may be easier to quantify than time-wise.
