I was walking outside and came upon this item called Gwen's Broken Flute. I have no idea where it came from or what it does or if it can even be used for anything, all I know is that I have Gwen's flute in my invetory! Burn me to death, heh, I have your flute! Anyone have any idea's?

There is a small girl outside the gates from Ascalon City (where you head into Lakeside County) named Gwen. If you click on her she'll ask to follow you around but she'll also tell you how she lost her flute. If you return the broken flute to her she'll ask to keep following you. Also, if you find some Red Flowers (look like seeds) and give them to her eventually she'll say she likes you second only to her mother and she'll give you a quest item - a scrap of tapestry. One way to make her really like you is to spend 4 gold and buy a new flute for her. She also mentions wishing she had a cape. I personally didn't feel like spending 200 gold to buy a little girl's cape from an outfitter though Maybe I should have?

That's about all I know of Gwen.... it was hysterrical though, watching her follow me into battle and go skipping around tra-la-la and all while I'm slaughtering bad guys left and right

If I recall correctly, in Pre-Searing Ascalon, it is referred to as a "Broken Flute" - that's the quest item that you need to return to Gwen. However, in Post-Searing Ascalon, you can find a "Gwen's Broken Flute" out in the first explorable area - is this the one you're referring to?
As far as I know, it doesn't serve any purpose but to depress people who liked Gwen, and amuse those that didn't. Personally.. I am pretty sure we haven't seen the last of her. The only other NPC with as much notoriety within the community is Rurik, and obviously, he's used a great deal. Who knows.. Gwen was outside of Ascalon when it was attacked..

Yeah I found the one after everything was destroyed, I didn't see Gwen anywhere so I had no idea what it was used for. Didn't know if it was a quest item or something else.

Omg, your so right!

Gah, I'm afraid to step in the explorable now... I bet she will be spawning Fire Imps and breathe Fire at you if you come across her.

In pre-searing Ascalon, if you give the broken flute to Gwen, and then buy her a non-broken one from the outfitter and give it to her, she'll be estatic enough to periodically heal you by playing on the flute when you're fighting.

But like Daj.. I'm really disturbed now.

Now I guess we know why the creatures don't attack her! They'll be blown to bits on the spot! (Maybe they already tried, and got absolutely destroyed.. and word got around in the monster world to "stay away from that little girl!")

I'm thinking future queen/leader of the realm...she who responds to the Charr threat with loving music, showing the Charr that we really do care, after all, maybe they only want a friend...did anyone ever even stop to ask? It happened in a movie I saw in the 80's, something about these giant killer ants that ate people until someone gave one a hug.

Speeking of Rurik's notoriety, I think him dying (did this happen for everyone, it might have been one of those dynamic quest things cause we never got around to killing the Ice Drake... Well... We did once and then the server crashed 5 minutes from the end so we rushed through it the next time...) Anyway... I think rurik getting his head hacked off after the Ice Drake landing a tree on him was the single best part in the entire game. I defy you to find a single person in the Guild Wars community who didn't laugh their ass off when rurik's head got whacked off!

Do you see it get smacked off? I just saw them attacking him. I still laughed my ass off though.

Sounds like you missed the end of the March BWE. If you did you'd understand that trying to give Gwen a hug was like soaking yourself in gasoline and letting her light it! *Poof!* A roasted marshmallow! I, like the others, am a bit nervous now to be around that little devil. She may look like an innocent little kid but after seeing what she did recently to all those "she loved" (something about why everyone she loves has to die) I'm beginning to think she may have been the mastermind behind the Ascalon's downfall and the Charr's glorious reign of destruction!

See if I get her a flute, a flower or even a cape (200 gold pieces ) ever again... I'll run as fast and far away as I can...

When you have the flower in your inventory, just click on Gwen. She'll ask for the flower. And yes, that's the one.

As for the cape, just repeat.

I heard that she gives you a tapestry shred. As far as I know, no one has figured out what to do with that shred.

I didn't laugh my ass off when Rurik's head got "whacked off." My reaction wasn't so much as finding it funny, but more sitting there and thinking, "Damn!" But the "damn" that people say when they're just kind of caught off guard by what was going on. I think it'd have been a better ending if we got to go back and take that Sword of his from his cold dead body

that's why I don't call this a roleplaying game, because that's the kind of character I play. He'd say, darn the prince is dead, but we must go on. However that's an aweful nice sword and will help us get further so I'm taking it.
