-5 Energy Weapons/ Offhands. Why?
Cherno
I have seen more and more people asking to buy -5 energy weapons and/or offhands. What's the point? Is there a new build out there that needs this?

-5 energy weapons and offhands are for PvP for hiding energy. It helps to get rid of energy drain.

You can use them in a weapon switch to have 0 energy or less. It's good if not mandatory in PvP if you want to protect yourself against energy drain skills and if you want to get rid of Malaise-like hexes.

Also great to get rid of Malaise / Wither.

Former Ruling
Now that E-Denial is becoming little more popular in some pressure style builds - Alot of Monks go into the fight with less energy than they should have (A Sword and Shield), and only swith to their Offhands/Wands when they need energy. Another way thats picking up force is start with the wand/offhand and have the Sword combo actually reduce your energy further (like -5 energys) (This is supposed to give better Maliase/Wither coverage while the other stops direct E-denial faster).
Either does about the same thing.

Not only for the minus to energy against e-drain builds, but also as far as weapons go, the dmg always mod is unconditional, whereas the dmg > 50% health, or in stance is situational.

Also helps for dying; swap to negative energy before dying (if you know you will), when brought back with a rez sig you have 25% of your energy pool.
So, using a base 37 energy, +10 for a staff is 47; you come back with (ignoring DP for the example):
~10/47 with staff equipped (4 pips)
~7/30 with negative energy set (4 pips)
~16/64 with a wand/+27 focus (3 pips)
~~20/79 with +15/+27 (2 pips)
But on switching to your staff (base setup) you would have:
From negative set, 24/47
From wand/+27 focus, -1/47
From +15/+27, -12/47
So you can gain ~17 energy on your base staff setup on rezzing by swapping to your low energy before dying, then back to your staff. Rather helpful to a newly rezzed player, especially a monk.

Weapon switch is something you need to really learn in Guild Wars if your a monk or a caster for that matter... but I use an empty slot / -5 energy / proper staff / +15 -1nrg +15 -1nrg (For EMERGENCY energy I stress EMERGENCY).

i bought a +12% -5 energy Bow and i think it the best kind of damage modifier, specially if a ranger has druid armor. Its almost unconditional.
