Special Edition is probably the least popular of the extra editions.
I beleive all it is, is the game with some bonus CDs and Artbook.
Collectors Edition gets Divine Aura, and The Preorders get the weapons...
They might have planned to add armor or weapons for them, but never did?

yeah. special edition is for the hardcore collectors out there.
you get a ton more extra stuff. but too bad no special differentiation, other than they in-effect give you a little bit more starter equipment to play with already (more than the preorder's, but not sure quality in comparison?)
