Just an idea about different skins of weapons having their very own abilities

I thought it would be cool if different skins of weapons had different bonuses of their own. eg. crystalline(10% ice damage) fellblade(5% faster swing) whatever. what do you guys say?

depending on the bonuses, someone would eventually decide that item X is the most desirable and then everyone would need item X to compete. Especially if the bonus was swing/attack faster. This would be a bad thing and take away from ANet saying that it's skill not items. Granted there are a couple items in the game now that are more desireable than others for mechanical rather than appearance reasons.

It's bad enough that the different armors have different stats. Tying appearance to function just punishes people for following their tastes and enforces a boring uniformity of appearance. (Just look at all the warriors in gladiator armor.)
