Error 7. can someone help?
Xenomorph
sorry if a solution to this was already posted. i cant find any info on this.
It sometimes happens just seconds after logging in.
Sometimes it happens 40 minutes into a 50 minute quest.
Everytime it happens, I want to scream. I HATE losing progress, messing up a difficult mission, and having run back where i just came from because of these RANDOM disconnects.
i can be running around, and then BAM! im looking at the login screen again.
Setup:
Athlon 64 3000+ (754)
NForce 3 chipset/sound/network
1 Gig RAM
WinXP SP2
Netgear RP614v2 router/network
i've seem some recommendations to open port 6112, so i did. no help.
anyone know what i can do? what to check for, etc??
please help. its killing the game experience for me.

There are two netgear solutions in there and how to open ports. Should solve the problem hopefully. =)

i'll post back if i find out anything (i'll post again if i get an Error 7 again, or if it plays for 2 days without an error).

disabling Port Triggering had no effect. i just got dumped again with the Err=7 message.

Dy you have another nForce based computer on your network?
My uncle and I had the exact same MAC address, which is both disturbing and funny, but that was our issue. He dropped in a NIC and it was all gravy.

ok, i just hooked up my Linksys BEFSR41v3 and got an Error 7 again. so i know it has nothing to do with my Netgear router.

I get the same thing, but only when my upstairs computer is running BitTorrent, which shouldn't be in the first place because we don't share the bandwidth, and it never used to happen till I reformatted.
Oh well...

Can you guys try to play GW bypassing the router and directly connecting yourself to the cable/dsl modem and tell me the results if it kicks you out in 2 hrs? i'm having this Err=7 problem and not sure what's really the cause of it so lets try eliminate the problem one at a time.
I am using a SMC barricade and get this error tonight i'm directly hooking up to the net to see if that's a problem also. if the router is the problem I will then upgrade the router's firmware and then try with the router again cause I have to share at home.
Also i'm using a on board NIC card don't remember the name though not home right now.

Error 7 is the "Lost Connection" error.
When this happens, does your modem lights reset? (Stop doing their normal "Hey look! I'm connected!" blinking.) Or do they stay on.
When disconnected, do your other online programs (MSN, AIM, ICQ) shut down as well, and you cant connect to the web for a couple of moments?

The guild wars support team has been very helpful. I got the following response from one of their tech guys concerning error 7:

Hello, Normally this error comes up from a firewall but since it is Socratic for you I think it is more likely an issue with your router. I would suggest you remove the router and run a hard line from the system straight to the modem. Once this is done be sure to power reset the modem and reboot the system. If this works then you should try disabling uPnP on your router or you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the software for your router as well. Also, you may need to update the firmware for your router or the router could be faulty. Guild Wars requires the TCP\IP Port: 6112 to be fully unrestricted and accessible inbound and out. You will also need to disable the "Port Triggering" in the router settings. Thank you The Guild Wars Support Team |

Intresting I don't have upnp enabled on my router nor do I have the ports triggered or fowarded. I have recievved this error maybe once since the game was released and I use a nforce based chipset.
It sounds like this problem is related to your internet connectivity more then anything, and I have both a NAT and a software firewall.

It's been giving errors with nForce chipsets, especially when the chipset is hot (overclocking or memory intensive operations), cause they can lose LAN if it's in the chipset...

i keep thinking more and more its the NForce3 chipset. it has an issue with Phantasy Star Online (there is a fix, but it doesnt work for GW).
i dont understand how my network card/router works so perfectly for every other game though.

I wonder if it can have anything to do with the hardware firewall that comes with the nForce3 mobos?
Any thoughts?

there is some CRC checking built into the card though. i have that disabled (its enabled by default). i had to disable it to get PSO to connect.

i disabled "Segmentatiion Offload" now, as well as set the device to Optimize for Throughput and not CPU. i'm going to see if that has any effect.
i cant really test it right now though, as im off to see Episode III (or at least stand in line for a long time before seeing it)

Well, I disconnected my router and ran my cable straight from the modem to my PC, and I had an initial err=7, but then I restarted it and have ran w/o any more of those errors. Now I did have some rendering issues, but minimized and restored the game screen, and it was normal again. This, of course, is a different issue anyway.
After being done playing, reconnecting the router only takes a minute. So I think I will continue to play this way and see if indeed I have solved the problem.

ok, now i've tried:
- two network cards (NForce 3 and Realtek 8139), each with two sets of drivers.
- three routers, Netgear RT314 and RP614v2 and Linksys BEFSR41v3.
- two DSL modems, SpeedStream 5100b and 5260/5660
- i've had Routers handle the connection and i've had Windows handle the connection.
with all those combinations i'm still dumped out of the game RANDOMLY with Err=7 (while everything else connected runs fine).
