Error message adding new guild member?
nechronius
Yesterday while trying to add a new member to my guild I received an error message. Can't quote you the exact statement, but it went something like this.
"Adding user failed. User "xxxx" could not be added because Error=2"
If anybody else has experienced this "Error=2" while trying to add a new member, I'd appreciate it if you could share your insight on this. I have emailed Guild Wars support, but I'm sure they're busy enough and might not be able to get to me for a while, if ever.
Here's some details.
I am the guild leader. I've added several people and promoted them without issues.
My officers have attempted to add this person as well and received the same message. They too have added users in the past.
This new recruit recently left his old guild. I had him verify that he was no longer with a guild by looking at his guild window.
I tried adding a fake user "asdjlfkj fasdf" just to see if I could reproduce the error and got a "user not found" message as expected.
I have as yet not tried to add someone who is in a different guild. I haven't gotten around to asking someone from a different guild yet although I should just try it to see if I get an error.
I have not tried adding someone who is not in a guild yet either as I would feel a little foolish asking an unaffiliated person if I can "test add" them to my guild to see if there's an error.

Just guessing. Does the user have any special international keyboard chars in their name? Also maybe cross international people can't be added to the same guild?
Other then that, not sure...never had that error before.

The member is in the US with standard English characters in his name. I verified that too.
I'm hoping that it's just a simple case of a database update that hasn't propagated to all the game servers or something.

Here's a rediculous question... but is he already guilded? I made the mistake of inviting someone who was already guilded and got that same exact message.
Oh, and if they have other invitations, that might cause an issue too. My error stated:
" XXXX can not be added because they are either in a Guild or have an open invitation"
Funny thing, I had two invitations at one point sent to me... so maybe a bug.

I tried adding someone who is already in a guild and received a totally different message which essentially said "this member is already in a guild" so that's not an issue.
I guess now the only way I'll find out is if I try to add someone completely new.

Well, do you have an Guild allies?? Friends with any Guild leaders or officers?
I would just ask them sometime if they could test add this member. I am a officer of a Guild, if you see me on, ask and I will see if I can add this person....and see if I get the same error.

Add me as "Neron Faar" but I could be playing under any number of goofy names. Thanks again.

I got this error recently too. The problem appeared to be that the first word in the player's name was just a 'G'. I could try to add any name with that as the first word, e.g. "G Ahlasdjfhaldjfhalskdjfhasdf" and the same error would be produced. However, if I did "A Ahlasdjfhaldjfhalskdjfhasdf" for example as the name, it would produce a player not found error. We eventually had to get the guy to create a temporary new character with a different first name (he used Dark) to successfully send the invite.

yah... I don't know about that, I got the problem with someone else... his name was like "xxxx x xxxxxx" and i tried and it gave me an error, not error=2 but like it said "Transaction failed" or something... it was because of the single letter... like i tried adding "xxxx xxxxx" of course it failed, because the character name didnt exist... but atleast i found the problem, and i reported it with "/report" as well as a bug...
but oh yah, no one got that problem with me, someone added me to their guild in beta... my name was (and still is) "Digital X" and they didnt get an error adding me... so im gonna guess that its only if theres a 2 letter or more word after the single letter word...

Good to know, thanks for the update on this...

The solution was just to have him create a different character.
Turns out that he already had a different character made, "Xx Xxxxxxxx" and that was no problem.
I didn't ask him if he was added to his prior guild as "X Xxxxxx" or his other name. Damn why don't I think of these things when I'm sitting in front of the game.
Oh yea, too busy playing and enjoying.
