Ice Dome
Himura the Warrior
I was wandering everywhere with henchman in search of secrets and I went into Icedome to find something cool. As soon as I got in, siege Ice Golems attacked us and a army of stone summit came in. It was crazy. If anyone has information on this place, please tell me.
Cherno
The icedome? I am not sure where that is. Since you say there were summt, I assume you aren't talking about the mineral springs area where the IDS is. Is this out by where you do the Helping the Dwarves quest?
Himura the Warrior
It's Southwest of copperhammer mines, Just go down killing stuff till u see a little bridge with some pinesouls and a griffon. Cross it and keep going Southwest, u'll probably encounter a small army of Stone Summit but u can run past em if henchies distract. Then just keep going till u see the entrance to the ice dome.
Kaguya
It's some kind of dwarven village, quiet easy to bump to it while doing Hero's Challenge and starting from Droknar's if I remember right.
Haven't managed to get through with henchies, haven't really tried tho. Reeaally nasty place.

Horrendous.
I tried fighting with henchies starting from Droknar's Forge to do Hero's Challenge to try to get to Copperhammer. Finally made it after two hours and 60% DP.
Next character I just went around from Rankor -> War Camp -> Citadel -> Copperhammer. Not worth the trouble to go through Ice Dome.

A very tough area, I have fought my way thru this area twice with henchies, first time
from Copperhammer, second time from Drok's.
I think it is a little easier from Drok's, the spawns are not quite as thick as when you
enter from Copperhammer, I did alot of pulling and running back making sure not to
aggro another patrol, I did not find anything special in there, but I was running and
fighting so fast I would have missed it anyway.

Yea, pulling does not work if you fight there from copperhammer. As soon as you enter, the gears of your death are set in motion. :P

A friend and I have been interested in Ice Dome recently. We both attempted to dual run through it, unlocking the area on our map, but ... heh. Whoever can run through all of that and make it out alive - I admire your skill.
As for the question of if there is anything special in Ice Dome? Good question ... I'll have to henchie fight it soon.

There's rumor of another Lost Strongbox hidden in the zone someplace. Haven't had the desire to spend 5 hours clearing it to find out for sure.
Ajantis
We cleared the place with a guild party to look for the strongbox.. Unless we missed it with 7, there isn't one.. And even if there was one, it's pretty impossible farming it

Caged Fury
Went through the Ice Dome with a guildie and henchies last night. Was going to Granite Citadel via Copperhammer mines. Don't recall anything special about the place...just armies of summit drawves. Drops weren't anything special to write home about, unless the henchies took all the good stuff.

If there is indeed a strongbox there, I don't think it's worth getting to unless either u have some super anti elite mesmer, damage, degen build unless it drops insanely rare stuff.

But there is something very interesting. You can run trough it SOLO. When factions came out, i realised that Shadow Form is a very powerful running tool for hard areas. I tried to dual run it with my friend (dual-Shadow form-echo-mimicry) but we couldnt make it trough(dunno why realy, but now i think we could make it 80%). Then 1 month after i tried solo again because i was so bored. I ran to Icedome, thats easy. Then got killed in beginning of icedome. The result of diying was that i got resed at shrine ( you get rid of one big group of enemies). Then i just a.echo-Shadow formed through, and i found a small spot where i waited for Shadow and a.echo to recharge. Then i just ran to the end. I even gamecamed it
. But in video you can only see the run trough Icedome (i made it to Molardune).

(btw in video i have 30dp because i got killed just before Icedome area, reason? WC and i forgot that there are some Ice imps over there :P)

mathijn
i tried 2 run there with my R/A, but when Shadow form ends.......poof
like 20 arrows in my ass from the rangers

Yeah I definatly went from Droks to Copperhammer with henchies on my Echo/SS necro. Pain in the ass. When we finally got through it (actually did well, around 30 dp for me I believe) we had to face to huge group of rangers, well part of them at different times.
This part is really tough, reminds me of Dreadnaught's Drift, only a little easier ;P.

I've made it with henchmen, too. It wasn't as hard as I thought, I would almost say it was easy
Some tipps, start from droks and go to icedome. I would recommend you to go to the east, I could pull out the groups better this way. Start with the Heretics/Herder and go over to the gnasher. After this you can kill the the Ice Sieges and the others summits. I didn't die this way until I got to the northern part.

if its so easy, why do you have 58 dp...
yes, you die alot. but if you have patience (or candycanes) you wil make it fine

I went there working on the cartographer title for my ranger and I found it was quite easy even with hench as a touch ranger with melandrus resilence. I would run in and touch down the dolyak masters then heretics followed by carvers and rangers.
Hand of Ruin
Rofl that picture above me is classic...
"I though it was quite easy..." - Picture showing 58 DP...
Ice Dome is probably the most difficult area in the game... I really don't belive anyone could solo that place. There are just too many mobs packed closely together, and the Heretics are ridiculous.
Once nightfall is released and they bring back the henchmen controls I'll be heading back so I can pull properly, but right now it's just not worth killing 1-2 at a time and dieing...

Six months or so ago, I went up to the dome, leaving out of Droknar's Forge. Then, the mobs were tough, but nothing like described here. I managed to clear nearly all of it with slow, cautious, and very patient work with hench. So they must have changed it. I wonder why? Nothing up there. Nice scenery. Got no excellent drops or I would have gone back.

Dying has nothing to do with something being easy or not.

Hmmm. Now I remember. I did make it through Ice Dome all right. It was beyond there on the road to the Iron Mines of Moladune that I encountered the impossible mobs blocking the end of a bridge that wound up giving me 60 dp! I made it to the Iron Mines just out of sheer stubbornness.
What all of this is for dates back to the beginning of the game. The devs wanted to prevent players from getting to Droknar's Forge, and then getting a series of runs to the Iron Mines of Moladune and getting infused without doing the storyline missions. They were afraid many players would abandon the storyline once infused and go right on the UW and FoW. Which to me is silly. Why not let people play the game as they like?
This is all now obsolete. LuKA made the run, so it can be done. The blockage doesn't work. Besides which, you can now go from Drok's to Camp Rankor to the War Camp, and then over to Granite. From which you can go to the Cave of Lyssa in Mineral Springs and get infused by the Seer there anyway, and forget the storyline if you like, which many do.
Personal rant follows. All of this could have been prevented if the devs had given a substantial reward for completing all the storyline missions. One of the reasons many players get turned off by GW is that they encounter giant mobs that have been placed to block runners, or run into measures intended to make farming more difficult. The devs need to take a more mature look at how the game is actually being played today and remove some of this nonsense.

Sorry, your wrong. First off, theres a beacons > droks run. That hasn't been nerfed, so obvioudly the devs don't mind about droks runs. Anyways, Iron Mines is further in the storyline then Droks, and about everyone will have droks before iron mines. Also, why do you say once infused people go to uw/fow? infusion only protects you from mursaat's spectral agony.

Ice Dome? Hard? Until I saw this thread, I had no real reason to go check this place out (not that big on the Cartography Title concept, and I don't do the Droknar's -> Copperhammer run with my Warrior). But since you guys want to talk about it, I figured I may as well make a trip up there and get a few points for my Title, get the map for future runs, and give you something to talk about.
And for those that think I cut the image to hide something...

Ive 100% exploration on tyria, but even im a bit perplexed to where you mean.
Do you mean the area that looks like a mini village, with a fort in the center. Filled with alot of ice-golems and Summit healers and fighters and shakers?
Its like a small section of the map which connects the south west side to the northern east side?
If thats where you mean, its not impossible to get around. Ive fought my way through there a few times.
There isnt anything amazing about it. No special sectrets. Just alot of bosses in there.

My first trip to Ice Dome ended up with me and the henchies getting teared a new one by the Stone Summit. The second trip was a walk in the park - all you have to do is take notice of their patrols and aggro accordingly.

Took my ranger up with the henchies to have a look around, 14 marks, quick shot, snare, barbed trap, penetrating shot, dual shot, kindle arrows, savage shot. Icedome itself was not hard. Just set traps if you're a ranger, pull very carefully, stick 'em full of arrows. Degen is moderately bad, I'll admit. I hate degen. GW devs like to afflict players with degen. WoW devs like to afflict players with nasty diseases. Sometimes I wonder about devs.
Found no good drops other than a handful of blues, but the scenery is nice. Then on to Frozen Forest, where the first attraction is a large number of Stone Summit with two or three masters, starting off as two or three or more groups which then merge. After waiting a very long time, they moved off so I could sneak by them to the bridge.
At the end of the bridge there are a lot of the little wraith demons I had forgotten about, and I got killed. Had to wait another very long time to sneak by the Stone Summit army again. Finished clearing off the end of the bridge and went down to the intersection where you may turn left for Copperhammer or go on to Iron Mines.
So, I take back my nasty remarks above. The road is no longer blocked if you are patient and sneak by the first army in the Frozen Forest. With more caution, the end of the bridge is survivable too.

On my first game I admin'd on, I created a world-wide virus as part of a quest.
After it had killed 90% of the players, and 100% of the non boss mobs I decided it was a good time to have a plot twist, in which the disease was undone by a new diefic figure...
Who then demanded payment for services rendered, in the form of souls.

I myself, going for explorer on my monk, used the Mo/R SQ/SB running build, and successfully mapped the whole area in about 45 minutes. I had to enter from both sides and run to abou thte middle and die, however, as running all the way through would be nearly impossible. Definently a hard zone.
Senator Tom
Acctually cleared it pretty painlessly with some [SMS] guys and guildies while workin on my exploration title. It's pretty manageable as long as you dont overagro.
Munanko Roha
Henched easily without a single death. It's all about aggroing carefully, if I remember right the zone next to it is way more difficult in certain areas.
