Your opinion about the championship and the finalists
thunderpower
I was reading the material published by anet about the teams that will compete in the Taipei final in just a few hours/days.
I am curios if any of you know some of the players, if you have played with them, or just based on the description and the interviews you feel you have something to say.
I will not express my taughts just now, i want to see if some1 had the same impressions as me.
And finnaly, who would you like to see as winner.

I'm aquainted with Paladin from IQ and I'd love to see them win, but I think War Machine will probably take it due to how much time they actually spend playing/practicing in a given day.

All I'm pulling for is a US champion!

I'm very much looking forward to watching the matches. Great luck to all teams involved, in particular, iQ and Te.

Always following the home team, so Go Valandor ! Hyvä Suomi !

Guildy of mine knew some members or war machine. Had them guest with use in GvG a few games. Nice players. Bad english but that didn't matter
Both are getting paid either way. Korea just get sponsers and paid more

To be honest I find watching any of the top guilds battling it out to be as interesting as watching grass grow. The battles follow a set pattern and frankly it gets dull seeing the same pressure and spike tactics.
Now the low ranked guilds when they battle it out is far more fun to watch. You never know what your going to see and the battles can develop into wild, chaotic free for alls. Not necessarily tactically sound but more enjoyable to see.
I am really looking forward to the whole tournament thing being done with. As a mostly PVE player with only casual PVP, the tournament has interrupted the normal flow of skill tweaks and other minor changes that had been occuring prior to its start.

iQ for teh win!!!11!

I would like one of the American teams to win, because they're representing my country. I got Paladin from iQ to swear at me once, and I hit Stepn from Te with a hammer in Random Arena once. Other than that, I don't know anyone from any of the teams.
As for who is going to win, I honestly couldn't tell you. At this level of competition, whoever loses is the one who makes the last mistake.

Go War Machine!
Don't Forgot about Val. i actually have a few Friends in it.

Good Luck WM! i mean iQ!

...and I'm gonna miss most of it because of work. When's the DVD coming out?!?
If I can't watch, I'm not rooting for anybody. I've seen more War Machine than anyone else in observer mode lately, so I guess they have a special place in my heart. Planeswalker... what a name.

played guest GvG with some friends, only to see Danjang (evil) playing too!!
(it was really funny seeing him give tips to the guy leading, who was a very experienced PvP'er anyway!! but i guess he thought he was helping out... )

I'm finnish btw.

I'm looking forward to EvIL vs War Machine. The way Last Pride played, I think that iQ will have a hard time beating them. Te we're pretty crap, dunno what happened
Xanthar
I'm sad to see Val going out of the tournament on the first day, but LuM defeating Te is at least some solace
In any case, tomorrows battles are going to be very interesting indeed! Will we see an all-korean final?

Although.... I must say, GW is really not a spectator game. I wonder what the crowd's reaction was at the live event? Did they have some commentary explaining what was going on? 35 minutes of warriors taking a couple of swings against someone for no visible effect, and then switching targets, along with magical sparkles appearing around people every now and then, again with no obvious indication of what they're supposed to be doing (unless the spectator is savvy enough to work out that purple/green = bad, and blue = good), until the end where one side kills the guild lord during VoD and wins. (speaking about the LuM vs Te games 1 & 2)
Maybe Te's air spike in game 3 was an attempt to do something flashy and obvious, although it backfired pretty badly since they weren't able to spike anyone out at all and mostly just ended up running away and casting blinding flash.
SilentAssassin
saw the games, and got to say EVIL will be unbeatable... man they just kicked val its but, to bad I was voting for them
oh well, go LuM !!!

You guys do realize that America doesn't mean United States, and means America, as in western hemisphere don't you?
One of the American teams had players from Brazil and Canada.

Hmmmmm What Was TE thinking with that all Me team in the 2nd match?
I couldn't help but root for them, but, they seemed to have no coherent strategy once they hit the field.
Still, they still get to do some partying in Taipei

I was shocked at Te's decision to go with the six Me/E, two monk build in the third match, especially after they were so successful with their degen build in game 2. Nearly as shocking was Val's decision to go split team in the beginning of their 2nd game against an incredibly solid team like EviL. That might work against a lesser guild, but not against any of the competitors in Taiwan.
The winners of those two matches are patient teams with solid builds, and are going to be very, very tough in the next round. I am looking forward to seeing what War Machine and iQ are bringing to the party.
I disagree with the comment that Guild Wars isn't much of a spectator game. I found the competitive games to be fascinating and informative. You can learn a lot from watching carefully, and that certainly goes beyond simple individual and team builds. The *way* these teams play together, the team approach to healing and striking, movement within the map, selecting areas within a map to fight, retreat timing... this is good, high-level stuff. It is easy to see why these particular guilds are among the best in the world.
Man, I love this game....

It's true that if you don't know much about how PvP works, spectator mode can be pretty boring.
That's like saying boy it get's boring seeing the warrior hitting with his axe, or that ele using his skills.
I think it was smart of ANet to implement the auto-camera that moves around and picks the most 'interesting' things. With this, I think even someone who never played GW could appreciate what's going on after some explanation. 'Oh, that person is about to die' 'oh i see, the monk is healing him' Still, it's not like counterstrike or something though, were more people can understand the basics of what's happening straight off the bat.
That said, LuM vs. Te matches 1 and 2 were really fun. I'm rooting for iQ to win it all though, and I can't wait for their match against EviL.

i think guild wars is so complicated and deep that if you had no pre knowledge no amount of explanation would help them understand what was going on. Theres just too much there. Try to remember the first time you fired up guild wars after you bought it and had no idea what was going on at all, and had to be hand held thru hours of pre searing

Oh well, maybe I'm wrong and the whole thing was a big hit with the crowd and they did mexican waves whenever a team got a morale boost. I have no idea, maybe someone who was there can tell us.

I've played against all 4 of the guilds remaining.
My prediction: WM vs. iQ Finals
Winner: WM

Ill be giving and taking odds in LA int 1. No markers accepted. I want to see your gold before placing the bet and it will be held by a neutral party.
No Welchers.
I have two Canthan's named Luigi and Marco who will visit your guild hall if you any questions.
Now,
Parlors open.
5:4 WM
2:1 IQ.

Whose first?

One thing I still try and follow is the positioning though. The Koreans can really show that they know the map like their own back hand.
Beat_Go_Stick
Can I be a neutral party? please? :P

I hear that iQ had voice chat troubles. I'll always wonder what would have happened had it worked, if iQ would have won that semi final match vs. eViL. Seems like the type of blight on a competition that Anet would have liked to avoid, where due to a technical issues there is the question who would have won if everything had worked smoothly. I can't help but think that it might have gone the other way.
I'm slightly disappointed in Anet, for not anticipating something like this and preemptively handling it. Perhaps by providing on-site voice chat servers available for use by the teams at no charge, or something.
Guess it doesn't matter though, the game is in the record books. GG eViL, it was well played.

After the regional games it allready became pretty apparent to me that the Korean guilds were the ones that should be feared the most. After seeing the first of WM matches in the regionals I was already rooting for them and I was already doubting any of the American or European teams being able to stop them.
There is no stopping the war machine...
Awesome first match between WM and LuM.

I had my hopes high on LuM and they didn't dissapoint me, 'cause the games they played were really hard fought matches, WM didn't go through them easily. All the power to WM and I hope they win!
LordDeArnise
EviL will give them a fight, though. However, it looks like WM will win it all for South Korea.

IMO, EvIL look stronger than WM. Maybe it's just that I like their build better.
ADD: I quote over from TGH:

lol, that voice chat explain the hesitation I see on both teams.
EvIL end up with more advantage since they had fought earlier to know the voice chat problem. iQ on the other hand... too bad, better luck next time.

Nothing against korean but if war machine wins I'm going to be very mad. They get paid by sponsers to play this game. No other guild has anything like that and have to play on their own free time. Doesn't that seem a little unfair?
Kind of like the pro league vs the college teams.
Also notice that the coverage from guildwars main site has no pre-game interviews with any euro or american teams. Money runs everything. Seems even so in video game competitions.
