nope, a green item can not be modified any way that includes dyeing

That's not always true, since if you dye an armor and then use remover, it will end up a slightly different shade than an untouched armor. Try using dye remover on an undyed armor and you'll see what I mean (I'm sure 'some' armors are the same, but some of them do change.)

Good example, try Dying the Monk Censor's Armor. If you use a Dye Remover after it you won't get the original Red color.
