to me, the combat is growing very old. The fighting is done for you, all you do is click a few abilities when you have enough energy, and then that's that. Does anybody find this boring after a while? It could have been my blundering mistake to be a ranger and then choose warrior as my second profession, but even then, the combat seems so boring.
Does anybody find this true?
Doesn't combat get old?

You'd rather that you have to click a button every time you need to swing a sword or fire off a wand?
Besides...if all that YOU are doing is waiting for a skill to recharge or energy to gain to simply hit a button, you're not really playing that well.

Go play PvP tell us your opinion again.
If you think you can handle Tombs just with clicking your skill boxes, think again.

There are spots where the missions did seem to drag on a bit. Tweaking your skills, and trying different strategies may help. It may also be that you are just sick of your class, as Rangers are more support-oriented. Try a Warrior, Monk, or Elemental if you like.

The combat is about as immersive as it can be without being an FPS (and if you want an FPS, go play an FPS. God knows we have so very many available). Yes, you can simply stand there and click skills, but you have to have good timing and you have to choose which enemy to attack when based off of multiple variables. Additionally, you can attempt to position yourself for greatest effect (position actually matters somewhat in this game).

This is the nature of action-RPG's (and even story-driven RPG's, in terms of combat) - move forward a bit, see monster, splat. Move forward a bit, see monster, splat. Ad infinitum.
PvP can get to feel that way too (just better opponents, requiring more thoughtful splatting), unless you're a competitive type of player that really likes the feeling of beating human opponents using pixelated avatars, which not all of us are.
At least it's not Diablo1, with the constant index-finger-numbing left-clicking (loved that game when it came out, but...)
I like GW a lot - but yes...it can get boring if you play frequent long sessions. All games can. Play shorter sessions. Play PvP as suggested. Or have an alternate game to split your game-time with. Works for me.

hey the combat actually isn't bad, it turns out i was just too early in the game and chose a bad secondary class. I'm really liking the combat now, and i see why this is so fun. No problems now.

Burrowers.
Someone seems to have thought this was a terrific, spiffy idea, because there are burrowers in every bloody zone. But man is it tedious - oh look, another scorpion/spider/plantpod thing (yawn). Of course players can't sneak at all, you've positively got to fight every stinking Level -10 XP 0 scorpion to the death.
There's no place in the game you can just walk from A to B without fighting a couple of dozen creatures in between. There's almost no variation in creature density at all (except that it only grows more dense and more tedious as you ascend and beyond). YThe terrain is set up in narrow paths (in general) to insure you can't avoid groups to get somewhere more quickly.
And of course our "no-grind" game has dozens of missions that require you to cross two (or more) full zones, say a minimum of three dozen critturs you can't avoid, for a lousy 500xp+crappy item you outgrew five levels ago.
There are a lot of contributing factors...but yes I agree when you start to feel bored by it, it's time to play another game for a bit.

combat is fairly similar to Neverwinter Nights, and there isnt a single thing wrong with that game

If you use the same darn skill since lv5 to the last mission, YES! it does get old...
I can't stick with the same build more than a week, or it kill my mood for playing... that is why I constantly create weird build by myself... and share it with myself =D Unless I get bore... then I share it to public =P

A simple solution would be to do what they did in EQ2. If the creature = 0xp then switch off the auto attack. That would ease things alittle.
To add stealth or invis to the game would take alot of adapting. (unless they had them as PvE skills only. bit like necro summon fiend, in PvP there just aint enough corpses to make it a viable skill selection.)

Yes but doesn't everything get old? The one thing guild wars does is it allows you to keep things fresh. Creating new characters, pvping, new skill sets, heck even new weapons and armor, did i mention Guild vs Guild. Try it all then if you still bored I'll fed ex you a ball and cup.

In Old Ascalon it isn't so bad -- half of the monsters don't bother attacking you on-sight anyway, and those that do usually yield some experience points. But when it gets to the stage of getting nothing at all from killing monsters, you start to pull your hair out.
