It used to have much better drops, but it was nerfed. The lost strongbox and the frozen chest are both in dreadnaught's drift. There is also a lost strongbox just outside of THK, but it only spawns 1/2 of the time and the drops are worthless. There is no lost strongbox in Ice Floe, that was just a rumor, since Ice Floe is a real pain to go through. The Frozen Chest in Dreadnaught's Drift is the easiest to get to, it's guarded by a lot of Tundra Giants and drops armor, the Lost Strongbox is hard to get (couldn't run to it w/ my warrior), it has a ton of Stone Summit Dwarves guarding it, including an arcanist.

Both the chests are in dreadnaughts drifts and are both very easy to get to with a basic forge running build. For some reason people like to say the lost strongbox is hard to get to. I've done well over 20ish runs and every time I went there was only one heretic that spawned near the Lost strongbox. All you have to do is throw on holy veil before you run in. If it get shattered the heretic will not cast crippling anguish. If he casts crippling anguish you just have to remove Holy veil fast enough so no cover hexes get thrown on you.
However these chests are a waste of time. I've never got more than one purple item out of these chests, and never one gold. However if you want to get some chapter 2 items, like eerie staves this place is great for dopping those, I have yet to see it drop an assassin weapon but who knows the chests may drop those too.

D'Oh! you're right, for some reason I mixed up Ice Floe and Ice Dome <_< >_>... There was a rumor of a strongbox being in the Ice Dome too... so sorry about the confusion, yes, there is a Strongbox in the Ice FLOE. ...

Matt..not true..one of the those lame purples your talking about was a max damage 10req Crystalline Sword...which I sold for 100k...so it does drop decent stuf...BUT BUT...the majority of the time it is just white junk.....so just stay away..you won't get anything good.

I went there today and to say the least I was totally disappointed.
Frozen chest had a white tengu robe.
Lost strongbox had a white gladius and a white water wand.
Definitely no worth the bother.

just to get evry1 farming this spot again i found that 2 weeks ago... guess i was in the .000000001 percentile for once.... i hadnt farmed it in ~~3 months though.
edit-also, it was the first time i entered the zone.

wow. just wow. If that is truly from 2 weeks ago then im surprised. I just dont understand it, since they added keys ive never had even a gold item drop from either of those chests. Like Icefire, I also had a rare crystalline drop, mine was just over a week ago, req 8, no damage mod, I customized it for my warrior, I have the SS but I am at work right now. Also, mine dropped on the first instance as well....hmmm, makes you think...as a sidenote, I also get many rare armors from the frozen chest and now that I think about it, usually on my first instance...and I always go get the frozen chest first...from now on though I will be getting the lost strongbox first, thnx Icefire for making me realize this possible key point to farming the strongbox
I also had not visited my fave chests in quite some time...we might be onto something here One more thing...I have had a rare armor drop on subsequent runs as well as some max damage dwarven and serpent axes, so it still is worthwhile rezoning and trying again

well, ever since i got the sword ive never gotten anything else gold again.... i havent farmed it in a long time either. and no it is not photoshopped, and yes it is from ~2 weeks ago, you can ask a friend.....
i was either A)very lucky and thats all or B)it was because i hadnt farmed it in so long edit-and yes that was me yelling O MY GOD my hands shook for awhile afterwards

It's all luck with that chest. I ran that chest for like 3 hours straight each day on a few different days with my monk, and the only gold I got was a gold krytan axe with crappy mods.
*sigh..I will keep trying though, maybe I will try with my warrior next and see if he has better luck

ive opened that chest about 50 times and the best weap ive gotten was a gold shortbow 14 while enchanted...
I deserve those crysts! Has any1 ever gotten a white crystalline from that chest, or do they only drop gold?

I went up yesterday and got poop....mostly to see if I could find it. I may try it again later, but the chances of getting something really good seem pretty remote. I think I'll stick with my standard Griff farming and so on. I don't make tons of gold, but it's pretty steady.

I try a signet cap last night, in ice floe... and what i find? Just out outside of Thunder? A lost strong box... lol but it is a trap just i open the box 10 shadows ghosts pop up with a shadow boos monk with in... lol and the box drop a trash staff... i tray 30 times later, i run look for boss and return to city... and the box dont spwan again

the " Mary poppins " chest as its known by does still drop those rare skinned items, been playing this since release and had never seen a crystaline till a few weeks ago when i started doing the Mary poppins box and have had 5 Crystalines from it so far, 3 Gold, 2 Purple ( 1 of which was a req 9 +14% enchanted ) tho i must have done the chest 100+ times b4 i got 1. Again its all about chance, dont expect to get 1 just that u have a better Chance of maybe getting 1.

I had a go at the famed chest of goodies last night with an R/W and got maybe 4/5 of the way to dreadnoughts from Rankor (thats where people leave from, right?). Methinks the ranger is possible due to mobs breaking aggro easily when you're speed boosted and rangers are 'the' speed freaks... I died trying to get through 1 group of tundra giants too many without resting and regen. As a preliminary try, i used: escape{e} storm chaser dodge balanced stance whirling defence serpents quickness troll unquent (and something else) ... dont remember ... might sub in a 'shout' or something, sheilds up during balanced... atts: 13 expertise high WS (sup rune) enough in tactics to get balanced to 14secs or so. with single groups of anything, you should either just be able to hit troll and then speed boost past them (keeping them as far away as possible) and avoid the giant stomp/soj. You might get knocked down, just keep running. For example, Azures (popup group of 4) might only get you with 2 sojs before they break aggro. Similar with tundras and herders. When there are lots of mobs i make a note of how many will be aggroed before the next clear 'rest' area. then hit troll/serpents->balanced stance and head in. i count how many SoJ's and giant stomps i suffer, when i'm confident they're all finished, hit speed boost (dodge/escape are good for avoiding tundras projectiles) and find a safe spot. Serpents before balanced is so that if i dont make it through, i have balanced stance ready to go relatively soon (also WD and troll ready to use too, in the midst of things). This sort of thing left me with ~20 health a couple of times, so its pretty flakey. Looking forward to working on this one more. Alternative Warrior skills? What about monk secondary? (increased healing during knockdown periods). Suggestions appreciated.

Can u just run into dreadnaught's and get the chest to appear or do u have to do anyhting special to get them to appear? I used my forge runn build and just ran in but there neither the frozen chest or lost strong box apeared! Can anyone tell me why?
