Why do Salvage Items have Armor?

Purely idle curiosity, but someone had to sit down and enter all those numbers in a database somewhere. Why, if they aren't even used?

To have you question it...

Maybe the number signafies what kind of salvage material you get...?

It also affects your chance of salvaging "rares" from the item. In the case of non-rune salvage, it would mean getting the rare salvage equivalent of the normal salvage (leather, silk, linen, steel, etc.)

Talk about an obtuse means of communicating the info O_o Why not just have an item quality label or something.

The more I learn, the more the game makes sense, but they sure don't go out of their way to inform you, either in the manual, or in the in-game tooltips (nowhere does it describe the actual effects of armor).

Ah well, good to know, thanks

Who cares if it has armor or a rating...?

I like that they don't give us all the details, lets us have more to figure out.
