Which ele armor would be the most useful to use? Is there an element that is most common?

I will speak to only the male armor.

They are all basically the same, even in looks. The only really important piece to have to switch out on is the head piece for the + 1 to whichever element you are. Each set has protection and then protection against a certain element so that can be your deciding factor.

I prefer Pyro armor for looks. The only other one I would consider is 15K Aero or now Geo.

All hyrdro armor looks weird to me with its super flared coat. Droks and below aero and geo bug me because of teh short sleeves.

The only problem with Pyro or any of the ele armor for that matter is that there is very very differentiation between them at all levels until you get to 15K, even then it isn't much. I very much dislike the look of Fissure and Collectors armor.

Apart from looks, consider the environment you are in. Shiverpeaks and Fire Islands are the most obvious examples of areas where it would maybe be beneficial to have one over the other.

Well only considering the stats of the armor I would go for aeromancer. Especially when playing PvP because air is the damage which you take the most (for air spikers). It has 25 armor penatration so whit the aeromancer suite you can compenstate it. The best look has the FoW armor and it shows your experience in PvE.

Going from memory here (its late... or early... ), but the elemental bonus on any piece of Elementalist armour is +15 at its highest, and does not stack. Essentially you're tacking on the near-equivalent of a shield on each piece of your armour.

I do not PvP often, though I would imagine the most common elements encountered there are Fire and Cold, from Rangers and Necromancers, not Elementalists. I could be totally off base there, and feel free to correct me. I was under the impression the era of the Air Spiker teams has passed (some time ago).

The same really applies in PvE from what I've seen, with Southern Shiverpeaks/Sorrow's Furnace and Ring of Fire being the ends of the game. I cannot comment too heavily on FoW/UW as its been so long since I was last down there, I don't remember what I was getting hit with.

In short, if you care about stats, its relatively easy to buy two or three sets of 1.5k armour and cover your bases there. If you care about looks, and judging from your question you either don't or are simply after "the best," there is no right answer.
