There are at least two ways to call a target, one with the control key and your mouse one one, I guess, with the t key and a space.
If there's anything to add to that, please do.
But my main question is: Is there any way to automatically attack the called target, or do you just have to select and attack it yourself?
(If it's the latter, then the followup advice question is what to do in PvE, when multiple targets have the same name, and when even uniquely named targets can take a long time to find with the tab key.)

If you have a target selected, CTRL+SPACE (Or whatever button you mapped over space), will call and attack. It will auto-follow and call if you have a teammate selected.
Of course, holding ctrl while activating skills, selecting weapon sets, clicking on health/energy/xp, and clicking on conditions will send messages to your team about whatever you clicked on ("I'm using Poison Arrow on Some Newb!")
If somebody else calls the target, a little target sign appears next to their name. Clicking that selects their target (shortcut is T of course). There's unforunately no way AFAIK to set your char up to automagically attack called targets.

You can 'call' a target by holding ctrl and hitting space with them selected or holding ctrl and double clicking them.
I feel sorry for anyone who uses clicking to select an enemy, unless in an overly crowded pvp match where tabbing just won't cut it.

ctrl+shift+space targets without attacking

Ctrl+Shift+Space is what you should be doing most of the time.
