The new UW with henches?
Numa Pompilius
Just curious if anyone's managed to solo the new UW with an all-hench team?
If so, what profession were you?
For me, I've done all PvE missions in the game up to the second Titan mission with henches, plus all Sorrows Furnace quests, but I can't seem to manage the new UW with henches no matter what I try.

Doing it with henchmen seens pretty silly, since they still get some of the drops... You won't get all the greens, there's still a chance you'd get none, I'd imagine.
Stormlord Alex
Just the same as if you were doing it with people. So, why is it 'silly'? It's a challenge.

Weith people you can go in a group of five and make sure you get something.
Also, at least in a group of 8 people someone's gonna make money. If the henchmen got the greens you effectively just wasted 3 hours of your life.

And if other people get the greens, YOU have just wasted 3 hours of your life.
On topic, I can't get past the second floor with henchies.

Yea true but i love ppl better than henchies cuz we can trade item if they want :P
Effendi Westland
The OP probably wants to do it with henchmen for kicks, as he has done everything else with them.
On topic. I think their retreat options are too limited to make it. As even the best teams sometimes make a mistake and are forced into a retreat.

i myself have gotten all the way through with henchies 2 times, the first time i got nothing and almost never went again, but the 2nd time i got a green bow, dont remember which though.

Ever thought of getting there with hench and then getting them killed off in the end?
All you need is a build that can solo the 3 bosses and then use the group to the far left of the bosses to kill off your hench.
Solo the bosses and all drops are yours....at least in theory.

Even if they die, they would still get drops...As long as they're still in the party, even dead, they would get drops. You would only get more exp if you solo the bosses with dead henchmen.

Please correct me if I am wrong but the drops for dead party members is on a timer. If you are dead for a certain amount of time you no longer get drops. Am I right in believing this or have I been a solo player for so long that I have started my own cult thinking?

Actually the henchies' drops doesnt even show on the ground. So theres no way to get henchies' drop whatever u try.
gimpy wimmer
well the henchys still get the drops and do u ever see the henchys picking up stuff NOPE so it wouldnt work gg

i don't think its possible at all, its still hard with 7 other experienced members in the team, let alone healers that act as tanks, and on a personel note, i think its fun with people, even if i don't get anything, i still have fun chatting and socializing, making freinds, blah blah blah, showing off skills, its just fun :P

Actually if the henchies get killed near the place where you finished off your enemies, they gain exp.

off-topic, drops for dead party members depends on how far away they die, si? (but fingers of chaos seriously screws over pretty much any attempt at soloing the darkness, not to mention diversion, ignorance, backfire and really painful wand attacks :P )
on-topic, I too have gotten to the second map with hench only to get owned near the Chaos Wurm area. that was with my warrior. I've yet to try it on my monk, perhaps it would be better.

Lady Lozza
I've tried with monk made it all the way to the final stage and got owned by the darkness. Darkness + henchie = dead henchie in a very short period of time. If you want my opinion I think it could probably be best done with mesmer, but I haven't tried it.
Numa Pompilius
Until I see a screenie, I'm going to think that the new UW hasn't been henched.
Lady Lozza: you may be right about mesmer. My most successful attempt was with a W/Me, I got to the second map and cleared most of the second map before the party got two adds and wiped as both monks decided to raise the same hench mid-battle.
I'm thinking a Me/Mo might be a good choice.

Maybe I'll give it a shot sometime in the future... I don't particularly like tombs as it's just a straight out damage-fest without anything to really overcome, except lack of group dynamics.
Caged Fury
Hmmm...shall I take my W/Me or Me/Mo for this? descisions, decisions, decisions.
Yeah, I'm looking into taking a henchie team for this, but probably not a full henchie team. I think I'll take a guildie along to share in the terror of exploring this place. Never been here or the old one before....EEK!

Took my Me/Mo tonight and did pretty well for my first exploration of this area with a henchie team. Cleared the first 'Underworld' map without any problem or death. Henchies did okay, but still quite difficult to control.
Screenie of first map cleared.
Doing the second 'Scarred Earth' map went okay to begin with until the group in the enclave. I losted all the henchies to 6 Grasp of Insanity. I was left to deal with them on my own. I just did hit and run tactics using Wastrel's Worry. Put WW on a grasp, and ran. When it chase, WW will trip. It chase for a short distance before stopping and going off, to which, I would throw on another WW. Rinse and repeat. Did this to all 6, before I could res the team.
After this little mishap, things were looking good again until the open space, down a ramp (the section where there were glowing things on pillars). It looked like a clear open space, so I went to rush to the other side. My adventure ended when two wurms and some grasp popped up and surprised me.
Considering how far I got on my first exposure to this area, a Me/Mo does seem like a good choice (or it could be just beginners luck). I went heavy on Domination skills for damage and some Inspiration for energy management.
One other good thing from this trip, I got my very first Ecto from a Banished Dream Riders...YAY!

Yakumo
Tried it last night with my R/Mo using Barrage, pet and traps. Full hench team of 2 warriors, 2 healers, 2 archers and 1 mage.
It was slow setting traps and keeping the henchies under control. Things were going fine at a leisurely pace with no big mishaps. Afew bad aggros, but managed to pull through with minimum deaths.
Got to the second map, cleared the area up to and most of the center bit before two Chaos Wurms turned up.
During the fight, most of the henchies died. Retreated with the 2 remaining henchies. The wurms followed, so we stood our ground. It was going surprisingly well I thought, lasting quite long and knocking down their health.
The wurms didn't put up much of a fight and pretty much stood there. Taking this opportunity, a trap was set and then... *thud* I crashed out to Windows desktop. GW.exe encountered a critical error (or words to that effect). Sent A-Net the error report and went to bed in disappointment.
Oh well, the challenge still awaits!
(Personal note: I had those wurms, they were toast!)

Would a N/Mo have any luck? The T-shaped dryder trap and the first group in lvl4 are the two really bad areas I can think of. A /R or /Me would work much better but I think rebirth is going to be pretty key to keeping the party going.
Edit: Heheh. Make minions as party dies. LoD to raise party at 25% health. Make minions as party dies..

I am not reading where someone actually did it so i'll put my input.
Henching the PVE TOMBS i doubt it can be done, henchies will aggro everything, being the only real person what can you be? I as a Ele Nuker, fire, cleared first map with all henchies. Than gets tricky after that.
A warrior would be useless, a monk maybe bond everyone but the enchantment removal, necro MM maybe but can you kill enough to get bodies and an army and how to beat the 4 terrorweb part, Ranger Barrage minimal damage if only one / a trapper won't do squat, Mesmer not enough damage, if im missing something than dunnos.

I tried this like 2 weeks ago, just for kicks and bragging rights. Sadly, I was bored and frustrated with it, so only did it once. I went as my trapper, which would be very successful if the henchie AI would let you pull better. I cleared the first level and the start of the second pretty easily, but got overconfident and aggro'd too many at the area of the first worm.
I would also like to point out that when I trap trolls, if I die on my way back to my traps (while aggro-ing), but the trolls attack my spirit and die, I get NO DROPS. 10, 15, 20 trolls or whatever, and absolutely no loot. So this leads me to think that if a henchie is dead, he/she also would not be added in the loot payout equation.

Ya, I was thinking maybe MM with henchies if you can get enough bodies. maybe at the start letting some henchies die on the first mob to get minions going.

I have noticed that (while soloing) if I die while a monster is bleeding, and it dies after me, I don't get loot. Also, in UW if smite crawlers start fighting each other and deal significant damage to each other, I often don't get any loot when I kill them. So, if you set traps and die, the game probably considers the death of those trolls to be a result of environmental circumstances. In other words, the game doesn't give you credit for killing them if they die after you die. However, dead allies still get loot if they're within radar range and you kill a mob. If you bring henchies and they die within radar range, you will still receive less loot.

Ah, very cool. Thanks for cleaning that up.

From what I've read, there are two loot limiters:
1) If some other critter (or non-team ally) does more than 50% of the damage needed to kill something, you will not get a drop. You can see this in Pre if you let Devona or Rurik kill things by themselves.
2) You need to be within a certian range, or heal the damage doer, or do some damage to get XP and drops from the critters. This works for both henchies and players.
Killing off the henchies at the last group could be too close.. dunno. If it's not, I guess you could finish off the side group and then try to death nova bomb the bosses.
If you could get there without a full party wipe, you could go N/W and find some handy spot to abuse your pet into an army.

Not exactly a full henchmen team, but pretty close. Joined Yakumo on this little adventure just for the challenge. We went as Barrage/Pet/Trapping rangers, both R/Mo. Henchmen were 2 x Warrior, 2 x Healer, 1 x Archer and 1 x Mage.
It was a bit of a struggle to keep the henchmen in line and under control. They just wanted to do their own things. It was very frustrating.
It appeared impossible on afew occassion, but we finally did it after alot patience, planning and afew deaths along the way, mainly the henchmen.
The monsters there wasn't difficult to kill, it's only hard due the mobs that sometimes band together. In there small groups, they're easy. But a bad aggro, and you can be overwhelmed. Pulling mobs was hard with a henchmen team, especially when the warriors tend to use Charge and rush in when you are retreating back to the rest of the party.
It's just a shame that the henchmen took the good drops, but hey I'm happy that I completed it. Next time, I'll kick Yakumo from the party and replace him with a henchmen archer.
