Is it possible to edit this into 4-5 smaller files for transfer purposes? If so, what program would be needed?

You don't need to transfer the DAT file at all. As a matter of fact, this is the file you can erase when needed (e.g. if you have a map error at the same spot over and over). All that will happen is that Guild Wars will start downloading all maps etc. upon the next start of the program. If you wish to move the program, just download the client from guildwars.com and install it, everything else will be downloaded as needed.

I have 56K, though, so I was wondering if I could just transfer that to prevent having to redownload all the maps.

WinRar or 7-Zip to create a spanned archive (multiple smaller files).

I assume this would be useful to 56k users after downloading a large update...or something.

Edit: Hah, I was right about the 56k thing :|
