While the title is semi-oversimplifying what happens, it's still the general idea.
Namely, my problem is this:
If I tab out of the game for any signifigant period of time (say anything more than 10seconds, and no more than once) I CAN get back into GW, however soon after or an hour after (varies, and doesn't seem to be dependant on loading a new zone/town or anything to that effect) GW will have/cause a "video driver crash" Recovery of said crash by either clicking the "OK" box or having to kill the program(s) through task manager frequently results in a complete system crash. Additionally, if I attempt to stave off the inevitable crash by closing GW down, this can also result in a complete system crash (both are NOT BSOD's, just straight restart to memcheck)
Stats/Hardware on board:
Dual Athlon 2400+'s
1Gb RAM
Nvidia Geforce 6800 GT
Sound Blaster Audigy ZS
All newest drivers installed, all Win XP Pro patches installed
Video Driver IS 81.98, however I do not know the release version, but my drivers are pre- Feb 7th, 2006
I have had the same problem for a few months now, I cannot pinpoint when exactly it started, as far as if anything changed.
I have tried many things, such as rolling back to old video drivers, my sound drivers as far as I know haven't changed since maybe the first month of GW being out. Its really got me stumped and I don't even know what to point the finger at in my computer as to the culprit.
I thank you for any suggestions/ideas any of you may have.

Have you tried using the minimize button to get back to desktop? I quite often just minimize GW to do other work without a problem.

I always put my GW into window mode then minimize it. I used to have a similar problem, but not since I started doing it this way.

Yes I've tried both of those in the past, with the same overall crash effect. Will re-try again today too see if something has changed.
Edit: Tried it today, and while it didn't crash while I was in game, in town, and having it windowed, upon logging out and switching characters, it crashed, same vid driver crash error.
Also Aza - minimizing did the same thing as alt-tabbing.

I always run GW in a window, taking up nearly the entire screen. That way I can hop on guru when I want to look something up.

I would suggest uninstalling the driver. Then reboot. Reinstall the driver. Then Reboot. See if it still happens.
