Timer in presearing forest?

I don't think I've ever seen the answer to this, but what is that timer for in presearing, near the guys who are playing drinking games in the forest?? It just kicks in around that area and counts down, and nothing seems to happen

I believe it's a challenge to kill a black bear within the time... or something like that, not too sure myself.

When you've talked to the hunters, you have 3 minutes to kill x bears. If you succeed to do so and talk to the hunters again, you get a Hunters Ale.

Did this 3 times last night. easiest way is from Fort Ranik, via the slope on your left on the way back to ascalon. Try not to aggro the two bears en-route. Talk to the hunters when timer starts go kill 1 bear, easily done in under 1 min. Go back and talk to Brune (think thats his name) get your ale.
You can hang around for a min or 2 and do it again with second bear if you want.

Here they are. If you stick around long enough and kill both bears, they start cheering about you instead of their friend.
