Mesmer/Ranger build to defeat doppelganger?

I'm a M/R (domination/beast master) and have recently been smashed up by my doppelganger too many times - I need help!

Not only does my pet not come into the fight with me but he has a high powered bow which seems highly unfair! We use the same spells at the start so its even but then he just shoots me and I have no way of healing or defending myself, it is impossible!

It's suppose to be a One-to-One fight, thus your pet don't join you. As a mesmer primary, you should be able to beat doppy with ease.

all u need is empathy and distortion
constaly use distortion each time it recharges, and cast distortion when it wears off. dodge the arrows, u shouldnt even take 1 point of dmg if u do it right.

ok thank you. Does distortion help dodge arrows? I tried running around loads and not a single arrow missed me....

Dopple fires blindly into your hexes... so a few things that are nice:

Backfire (put it on him first!)
Power Spike (risky to bring sometimes, but stop his backfire with this)
Empathy (attacking shall bring pain!)
Wastrel's (not for the damage, but for the backfire damage when he casts it)
Distortion (take off wastrels, dodge arrows!)
Shatter hex (you'll probably end up with empathy, smash it in his face)

Mesmer primary is simple, you don't need to resort to running with empathy or any other 'tricks'. Just set up a balanced anti-caster build and bring it down!

Max out Domination.
Take your Illusion down to minimum.
Bring Backfire and a few hexes.
He'll probably cast the hexes.
