W/N vs. N/W...Pros and Cons?
Xanthippe
I want to make either W/N or N/W, but I'm not sure which one would be better?
Please post your comments and input on each build.

The pros and cons are quite simple.
W/N Pros: more damage, more armor, more hit points, ability to use warrior runes.
N/W Pros: more energy, more energy regen, ability to use necro runes.
I would go W/N in all cases except if I really wanted to do a lot of spellcasting.

Also, you got to factor in your style of play. Do you want to be in the thick of things? If so than W/N will be better suited for that due to the obvious Warrior factors. I just created a N/W, and currently I'm only LVL 5. Right now, it's a lot of fun in PVE, but it's still really too early to tell. I'm totally expecting a challenge in PVE and Arena Battle and PVP once I get there. Needless to say, I took the hard road by going to the N/W route...I hope I can build and play an effective PVE and PVP N/W.

http://kagaonline.low-ping.com - [KAGA] - GW.GUILD easy, put 12 on axe then get a superior axe rune so you can get 16 axe. then choose whether you want to go blood or curse? death doesnt work that well with a w/n. same with tactics and strength, decide which of those you want. i prefer strength for the armor penetration and it has more useful skills in pvp.
i usually put 10 for curses or blood and 8 for strength but it depends on what skills im using even though 10 strength would probably be better. also, dont forget about minor strength rune.

N/W = more dmg because of the ability to cast more necro skills.
W/N = more tankage, and the bonus of strength. Although, strength... well... if you have 10 to it (that's about average with runes and bonuses), that's only 10% armor penetration ONLY when you use attack skills.
I'd go with N/W. You can use vampiric touch more often, and other abilities more rapidly. As a N/W, you deal damage. As a W/N you deal damage, but less of it, but you live better.
Anyways, they aren't going to hit you, they're going to go after the N/Me, and Mo/Anything, because that's what they find is easier to kill. What good is armor when you aren't being hit? Sides, if you have two people on you, you can still do well. Grenth's Balance, or Life Transfer both work well for living... vampiric touch... bonetti's defense... N/W definately the better.
Although, the W/N is easier to play.

For where you are in the game ... N/W or W/N doesn't matter much ... either will work.
However ..... if you are thinking long term ... and want to get into the high end parts of the game (PvP or high end PvE areas) ... I'll give you some advice.
Primary Warriors (W/*) are really good at standing in the thick of things and bashing things (and taking a beating). They DO NOT cast spells (they don't have the energy for it ... and even if they did they would be wasting valuable resources .. ie not building adrenaline). Really ... the only Necro skill you will ever see on a Warrior's bar is Plague Touch. There is no other reason to go secondary Necro.
Primary Necromancers (N/*) are really good at standing back and casting spells. In PvE they have the best energy income in the game (by far) so they can cast spell after spell after spell. However they are really BAD at standing in the thick of things whacking with an Axe or Sword. For one .. they have terrible armor and zero defensive skills... you will die over and over until your monks revolt and your team stops res'ing you. But more importantly, what a waste of a Necros most prized resource (energy income)!
So it comes down to this .. if you want to stand in the back and be the most powerful spellcaster on your team .. go Necro. And if you want to stand in the mosh and bash things go Warrior.
The important thing to understand is this ... the way Guildwars is structured ... your primary profession ABSOLUTELY defines you ... there is MILES of difference between a W/N and N/W .. so you should choose your style of play carefully.
PS: There will be many that tell you that their N/W can tank fine .. or that their W/N loves casting spells. This is true in many many areas. However, to get into PvP (or even the hardest PvE areas) you really have to play to the strengths of your class or you will be at a significant disadvantage.

Death = none
Blood = none (unless you really want Well of Blood)
Curses and Tactics = even split
Axe Mastery = MAXED
You should have "Watch Yourself" Healing Signet, Res Sig, three axe attacks, and two curses. The curses should look something like this:
[skill]mark of pain[/skill][skill]barbs[/skill]
or if you want more tanking capacity:
[skill]parasitic bond[/skill][skill]insidious parasite[/skill]
A proper use of cursing should make up for you lack of Strength. Keep an eye on your energy. And take [skill]plague touch[/skill] when needed.

Holy thread necromancy Batman!
... and Drag? PvE + Warrior - Flail = Bad.
Every PvE warrior should be Flailing, it's too powerful not to.

Jeez, people need to stop resurrecting these 2 year old threads. Times like this I wish I could close threads :P

Although it takes considerable skill to learn HOW to play it well, a N/W can be quite fun. I'll post 2 builds I have used as one, and you can see if it might be something you'd like to try.

Good god, who keeps rezzing all the N/W threads?
N/W
Pros: None
Cons: Terrible
Edit: Magma, dark aura builds work about a jillion times better with /D for mystic regen and self enchant stripping.
