Challenging
benmanhaha
I didn't really know how to search for this, so forgive me if it has been suggested before.
Every one has been fighting to get inter-guild 1 vs. 1 duels. I think some of the appeal of this idea is the ability to choose your opponent. I think a fun idea would be to have an arena where you could form a team of 1 - 8, and for no reward whatsoever, you could choose who you want to fight. I remeber in the ascalon arena, my friend and I would enter the arena at the same time hoping to be on the same or opposing teams. With this setup, you and a group of friends(or random people if you so choose), could form 2 seperate teams, and challenge them to a battle. I think the menu would look a bit like this.
Leader----------# of players
Benmanhaha-----------5----------CHALLENGE?
Soandso-------------- 2----------CHALLENGE?
An on Amous-----------8----------CHALLENGE?
Of course the team doesn't have to accept the challenge. I like playing with people i know, but playing against people I know sounds quite appealing. This would be entirely for fun. There is no way you could reward this. I don't see any real holes in this plan, except that it may be hard or tedious to implement. This would shut up all the people asking for 1 vs. 1, and it would add a new, fresh aspect to PvP.

This idea sounds interesting, but I do not agree with any form of 1vs1 combat, as it's extremely pointless due to the rock-paper-scissors aspect of Guild Wars.
It's a Team game, not Diablo.

Bah! Closed mindedness. But I won't get into it. I don't want this thread to degenerate into that.
Blair46
Closed-mindedness? I beg to differ. I have seen so many threads about 1vs1 dueling, and I have looked at the pros, cons, and reasons why this would or would not work, and I believe it to be a stupid idea that is a complete waste of time. All it would do is provide moronic w/mo's to measure the size of their penises. The way the rock-paper-scissors aspect of the game works pretty much destroys 1vs1 because either you'll have one person annihilate the other person in less than 30 seconds, because the one build completely counters the other, or you'll have a match that drags on and on either due to two people being too evenly matched or one person is just running around when the other person doesn't have any sort of skill that causes crippling or slow movement in any way.
1vs1 duels are just a waste of time to impliment.

Sorry to say it, benmanhaha, but Blair is correct. And no matter what respectable person on these forums you ask about 1 vs 1 dueling, you will get the same answer.
Guild Wars is a team game, and cannot be played one player versus one player. Some professions are only good in groups, some builds are only successful when they fulfil a specific niche in a party.
While your warrior can hit things with a hammer, that's not what the game is about.
...Let me rephrease, hitting things with a hammer may be what your idea of the game is, but it's not the dev's, and therefore they are not going to implement any such 1 vs 1 system because it is contrary to the point they made the game for. Going solo is something you need to outgrow when you start doing missions... and as PvP was designed to be the more prestigious aspect of the game (arguable, yes, but let me continue), they're not about to give you the ability to solo against other solo players in a contest of 'who can kick who's butt'. The game is all about "if you think you can take on my entire team alone, be prepared to be dead before you hit the ground".
You'll understand this someday.

This is not another thread asking solely for 1 vs. 1, so please do not treat it as so.
And its not that I'm blind to your points, you both make a good argument. I'm just saying this isn't what the thread is about, ok? I would really appreciate some real constructive feedback. If it would appease the gods, I will take the 1 vs. 1 thing out, ok?
edit: I went over the riverside for a bit, and was reading the new frogtalk, where it indeed in the second picture spoke of a scrimmage arena, in which 1 vs. 1 would be possible, so I think I will ad 1 vs. 1 back to the original post.

Please post your support for 1 vs 1 in the official thread.
I recommend that you copy and paste your ideas in this topic and post them in the official topic of discussion for 1 vs 1.
There is a high probability that this topic will be locked by mods pretty soon.
Oh, by the way, I am fully in favour of implementing a 1 vs 1 system in Guild Wars.
And, till now, ArenaNet has never officially stated that, they will never implement a 1 vs 1 system of any kind.
Hence, the chance for a 1 vs 1 system to be implemented will always be there.
Unless ArenaNet makes an official stance regarding the non-implementation of 1 vs 1, people will always demand it.
Just ignore the post of the people who condemn 1 vs 1, this is a suggestion forum, we post our ideas, if people cannot give constructive critism we do not need to read their posts.
Anway, "The Frog" has mentioned something about 1 vs 1, hence I am pretty certain a 1 vs 1 feature of some sorts would be implemented some time in the future.

Well, you still can copy and paste your ideas and post them in the official topic of dicussion for 1 vs 1. If you post your ideas there, the topic won't get locked by mods.

Just do unrated GVG and have the two people that want to duel go out there, get the flags so you can regain your morale. It's not too hard. Just have like 3 spectators and 1 dueler, make sure someone has the henchies so they don't fight. The spectators can res for more fighting and use flags to gain back lost morale. Then the first person to make the other person go to 60% dp wins.

Unrated GvG is a guildbattle which does not make you lose/gain rank/rating. The only thing is that it's not random, you will need to have to 'challenge' another guild for this.
Doctor Death
I dont understand how you can have 1v1 in guildwars.
There will be to many griefers and also what would be the point going in if you are a healer or prot monk.
Sword warriors would own hammer/axe warriors full stop - Think Reposte, Deadly reposte ect.
Not to mention how annoying trappers would become.

Was'nt there talk of being able to 1 v 1 in Chapter 2? Can't remember where I read it and I belive it was from a reliable source than a random rumor.
Not always true.
Trapper? Bring VIM and trap back heh.

i think the idea is great, i remember when me and my freind always used to do that, and it would be cool to have a tournament of 1v1s all with peeps in ur guild, u could find out who is the best etc
