Hi guys,

In TOPK ppl are practically begging for good Barrage/ Pet Rangers.
Tired of farming there I thought it would be nice to check out Sorrow's Furnace.
After 5 minutes of reading what type of chars ppl wanted I began to wonder why there was such a lack of request's for Rangers. I asked a player what the deal was and he simply told me that SF was not for rangers. Most of my time is playing PvE, and I occasionally farm when we have favor in UW, or at TOPK.
If I hook up with my guildies what build do you guys recommend for exploring SF?

Athis There's a 5-man build almost everyone uses for SF that consists of a healer, barrier/lifebond monk, echo SS necro, Minion master, and stance tank. Check other forums for more info since this really isn't the place for it. (that and I'm too tired to explain it all)

Anyways, unfortunately rangers aren't really used in SF, although I have sucessfully used a trapper instead of a SS necro when doing a FA (final Assault) SF run. Only tried that about once or twice tho...

I have posted a thread expressing the same issue before, from it, I sometimes feel bad about the effectiveness of the ranger class.

From my experience so far, playing a ranger has been a difficult to find group beside at the Tomb. By that, I mean, since from starting a brand new ranger, I have always feel rejected by group, and only really got accpected by thouse who would team up with any class, or not picky.

Combat wise, I also find the ranger is not so powerful compare with other classes. I have recently started playing a Memser, and I have never experienced such a smooth and eqasy time going through the quests.

I admit that may be I just dont know how to play or have obtained a greater understanding of the ranger power, but back to the subject, this might have somthing to do with why people dont team up with ranger.

Monk Nerco, thouse are the most popular ones.

Rangers make amazing stance tanks that have much better back up healing abilities.

Rangers are FAR better for 4 man Oro/FA runs than Warriors as a stance tank and perform just as well if not better than Warriors in 5 man runs too.

The key to maintaining aggro is the ability to attack things without having to move. A ranger can attack ranged targets (As can a warrior if they use a bow, but they never do) without moving away from the melee that is surrounding them and therefore keep aggro of ranged targets better than a melee warrior. So getting into SF is often easier. Once inside, Rangers have more energy to spare and get it back faster. So they are able to heal themselves with Healing Breeze use Mending with more effectiveness and are able to use mend ailment on themselves. Basically they make the monks lives a whole lot easier. (This is why they are so much better in 4 man)

I did a post on this in the Root of Campire. Feel free to look at that.

I understand. I was to tired to explain it all myself. The guy whom I was talking to at SF gave me the break down and took the time to explain why Rangers where not being sought after in great detail. Regardless, this post has given me great info for what I need. Thank you

Taking a break from ToPK, I too went to SF to see what it was like. No one wanted a ranger, so I got a guildie to be a stance tank and took the two monk henchies. Waited away from tank so he can draw all the aggro, alot easy once inside when the tank can carry a gear thingy, and then I just used Barrage on the mob after dealing with anything that would interrupt or degen the tank. A couple of interrupts is useful for the Priest of Sorrow, and Apply Poison to begin the attack with. Having a small team, the henchie monks had no problems keeping us all alive. The progress isn't fast or efficient, it was a little slow but nice and leisurely. Got to explore the place and picked up afew green drops in two trips - Drago's Flat Bow dropped for my ranger so I was very happy.

Rangers key from what I've played and read here in the forums lies in stacking attack buffs.

I think nobody in the game can pile on the attack buffs like a ranger can:

hex on target
enchantment
preparation
stance
summoned spirit
skill dmg bonuses

That means in one go, you could have 6 dmg buffs in the arrow(s) your firing [or in the most extreme cases, 2 simultaneous shots <3 dual shot!]

Although my ranger/mes is only at Nolani Academy, he can chuck off half an enemy's life bar if my team is willing to wait for me to prepare [which they do usually]

Ignite Arrows, Favorable Winds, Lightning Reflexes, Judge's Insight [from a teammate], Conjure Phantasm, Dual Shot

My opening strikes kill 2 enemies in seconds usually and that's hot shtuff...

Can't wait till end game where I can get the elites and REALLY pile on the damage. [must <3 quick shot!]

ranger are always welcomed in my team.

barrage + judges makes nice damage, and a little symbiosis here and a Edge of Extinction there makes it much easier .

these people just dont know how valueable you are.

The Pet Barrage works well in SF as well. All u need is a healer monk, prot monk, MM, a ward ele, and 4 B/P. It works though i have tried it a couple times yet i cannot get it into rhythem so rangers can be used in SF widely. I got plenty of good green drops there doiing it too.
