Why read the wind over kindle arrows?
romeo_longsword
Say both of your Marksmanship and your Wildness is at 10, kindle arrows do 2x the damage, both only ast 24 seconds, why would some top spikers using read the wind instead?

because Kindle makes ur dmg Fire... therefore it won't work with Orders

You can max out Marksmanship to 16 for huge damage and get expertise to 13 with minor rune at the same time, or 14 with major. It also makes any bow a nice railgun.
romeo_longsword
If you max Marksmanship, you get 10 dmg from read the wind. While kindle, you get 18 if you haev WS at about 11.
glountz
*4 arrow speed with RtW. Your arrows are somewhat unkitables, with still a decent damage boost.

my favorite combo is to use Poison Arrow {elite}, dual shot, distracting shot, with kindle prep. also throw up favorable winds.
max wilderness +16
meet the bow requirement in marks; and the rest in expertise.
nice damage and poison degen, plus I don't run out of energy nearly as fast as other quick shot/savage shot spike builds.

When both orders are up, the damage they do easily surpasses the damage gain from kindle arrows. +18 with kindle arrows or +10 from RtW + 30ish from orders?
Cirian
Not only Orders, but Barbs and Winnowing are also reliant on causing physical damage to trigger, hence read the wind. Kindle is the better stand alone, but RTW gets the better buffs (I imagine Conjure Flame works with Kindle, but it's still not as good).
Damonias
As has been said repeatedly - The reason is because of Orders.
Especially when you consider that most spikers use Dual shot. The extra damage that you get out of the two orders becomes even more so.

It was touched on above, but the fact is that pumping up Marks to 16 and Expertise to 13 doesn't leave all that much extra room for points in Wilderness Survival. Being able to have a preparation without specing into another attribute line can be invaluable at times.
Then add onto that the Orders and spirit comments, as well as the flight time... RtW definitely has its merits.

Jenosavel, does the flight time of FW and RtW stacks?
If I remember correctly, they both increase the arrow speed, which I dont know how fast an arrow can go max, but lets say if an arrow can go faster with RtW, even when FW is already on?

i dont think there is much of a difference or any at all with arrow speed if you stack RTW and FW. but still, the extra damage just being regular and not fire is great. too many monsters are resilient to fire damage that kindle doesnt end up doing that much.
Murder In China
The +xx damage on Read the Wind and Favorable Wind are armor ignoring and stack.
Jenosavel
I really have no idea if the flight-time stacks or not. I know the damage didn't used to, but has been recently fixed so that it does. Whether or not the flight-time also stacks now is something I think will be hard to answer. With one or the other up, the flight-time of the arrows is so fast that any further increases will be a a perceptual nightmare to pick-out. I, personally, won't be the one to test that monster.

LoL! :P
scars of insanity
With favorable winds and rtw dual shot does 2 shots at about normal dmg at more than twice the speed. Add in the 30+dmg from orders and wala! u got 4 ranger spikers doing close to 100 dmg per dual shot then they follow up with a punishing and its over. For solo spiking in RA or TA kindle is better along with conjure flame.

But, would the fire DMG from kindle arrow ignor armour/production also?
SchwarzKnight
I've heard that whether or not RtW and FW arrow flight speeds stack depends on which order they're put up in. Kinda glitchy in that way if it's true, but I'm not totally sure.

No, it will still be reduced by armor.
Grammar
4 reasons:
1. Orders. 2. Most Ranger have high Marksmanship and Expertise, with Wilderness Survival down at about 8 or less. Given this attribute distribution, the before-armor damage of the two preps is very close. 3. RtW ignores armor while Kindle Arrows does not. 4. RtW is superior (and a must IMO) for interrupters. I don't think anyone's mentioned that last point yet. I always use RtW for my prep because I'm an interrupt Ranger, simple as that. (please don't bring up the FW argument, because RtW is clearly superior to FW about 95% of the time, and I don't think it's worth the slot to bring both). Cyan The Archer
RtW is best for a team player, but in Random Arenas or in PvE i would say Kindle is best. You get a nice self heal with the high WS and that is a must in RA at least.
XvArchonvX
If you have a bow with a high arc and slow flight speed, like a flat bow, then RtW works well to counter it. I prefer apply poison myself tho =P

read the winds is for ranger spike, kindle is more of a 4v4 skill
