Recently my friend was banned for unknown reasons. He doesn't have a guru account so I'm posting in his place. Neither him or I could think of anything he did wrong and when he tried to log on he got the code error = 045. I'm looking to find out what the code 045 means and if anyone has some suggestions. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Banning

Hello,
If you're having trouble finding the cause of such a suspension, I'd recommend e-mailing suport at http://support.guildwars.com . Their first response will probably be an automated e-mail, but if you respond to that, I beleive a working rep will tell you why his account was banned.
If it's only a short suspension, though, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

This sounds freakishly close to what one of our guild members had suffered on Monday, 2/20/06. Just out of the blue, while I was in Tombs, he vanished from the guild. Of course I was shocked, but I came to learn the next day that he had been banned for a reason beyond his or even our knowledge. He would never do anything deserving of it, so this has us all in AL bummed out very badly. He said that a request was made for a change of password by someone other than himself, and then when he tried to log in that evening, it notified him that his account was banned. And it is very crushing to all of us, since he has invested over 700 hours into Guild Wars, and poof it's gone for a reason beyond his own control. We pleaded with ArenaNet, giving as much proof as possible, but sadly they wouldn't/couldn't do anything. So I don't know what in the world is going on right now, but I am hearing more and more similar stories like this. I'm no technical expert, but I believe there are hackers that are somehow getting a hold of people's accounts and getting them banned. I would do anything to get our guildie back, it is impossible to put in words how crushing this is.
Again, thanks for the reply. I don't want to make false accusations but today he told me that he recently attempted to use the ------.com hacks. Apparently none of them worked for him so he deleted them not really caring but he continued to get error messages and than poof he's banned. Now I know for a fact that Anet can't track those kinds of things unless they have spyware imbeded in their program. If anyone else has used this site or is having similar issues as my friend you can post here if you're comfortable or else you can PM me. I plan on getting to the bottom of this. Any help is much appreciated.
Being involved with keyloggers etc would indeed be a legitimate reason for banning. But our guildie never fooled around with anything like that, which is what is so puzzling. I also am trying very hard to investigate his situation, but it doesn't look to hopeful. Good luck to you in finding what went wrong in your friend's situation.

it is that the keylogger allowed the account to be stolen or abused
unless you have good protection just opening a page now can bite you without having to click on anything.
someone gets the password then logs on and does a real nasty and is banned and the owner of the account has no way to prove he didnt do it

Loviatar is probably right.
Your friend, who isn't as noble as you'd have us believe, thought he would try downloading a hack program, to get some unfair advantage over regular, legit players.
But what he downloaded wasn't a hack, it was a keylogger, and he got his account stolen. The person who stole the account then probably either totally hijacked it, or used it to do some very very bad things, and it was banned for them.
I have no sympathy for ppl who download what they think is a hack, then lose or have their account banned.
To them I say, throw down another $50 for a new cd key and start from scratch and consider this a lesson.
