i decided to try playing an oath shot trapper, and i think it might even be better than the normal kind. you are only in real danger of interruption (from attacks) when you are under high pressure, but for most of the time, you can place your traps quite well.
expertise - 14
WS - 14
illusion - 4
marksmanship - what's left
1. distortion
2. oath shot <e>
3. barbed trap
4. dust trap
5. flame trap
6. apply poison
7. troll unguent
8. res sig
you place whatever traps you want (the energy costs are really low at 14 expertise) and then oath shot to get them all back. all your traps can basically be used twice in 20 seconds.
when you are stranded for energy, just slap on a 7 energy apply poison and you have all the time in the world for regen, since you are still spreading degen throughout the enemy team...
some warriors might see distortion and keep attacking, hoping to land a hit. that means that they will be hit by your traps, and most of the time you wont be interrupted...
try it out and you'll see it isnt as bad as it's cracked out to be.

Problem I oftern found in distortion rather the resolve is that, Me will disturbe pretty easily. Not to metion their tradition trick of taking all of your mana.

well, any kind of trapper is weak against energy drain, but what you can do with this build, is when you see a mesmer on you, use apply poison, and you have time to regen and are still helping your team (not like a resolve trapper).
as for distortion, normal interrupts really hurt it, but ranger interrupts miss like any attacks, and mesmer interrupts are mostly for spells...

I'm a bit new to trapping, but can't you use Whirling Defense instead of Distortion? Don't need to invest in Mesmer skills then.
Chain would be something like
WD > Barbed > Flame > Oath > WD (if needed), or Troll > repeat
SC

if u go Exp - 15 and WS - 16 u'll be able to keep a constant WD and have nice strong traps

Take all points out of Marksmanship and Illusion. The bow is not necessary. If anything, use a candy cane bow for Oath Shot and Apply Poison, then switch to a staff for energy. Use Whirling Defense instead of Distortion- it's better because you won't lose energy and, with Oath Shot, you should be able to keep it up 90% of the time. If you're worried about getting interrupted in that two seconds well, that's what Dust Trap is for.
Not a bad build. I like it.

as for WD, i was looking at the high recharge, forgetting oath shot
the problem that could be presented is wild blow. a warrior with this completely screwes the trapper, since the trapper cant re-apply the WD until oath shot is recharged...
distortion is there when you need it, and costs 2 energy for the cast, and 2 for every evade (not too much if you aren't pressured by too many enemies).
since i haven't seen a wild blow warrior for ages, i'll switch to WD
thx...
edit - although using a candy cane bow will cause more damage and be more effective over-all, i dont want to start explaining why i'm not a noob in every group i enter :-) i'll stick to my recurve bow of poisoning...
