Why Do You Stay?!

I guess this is more of a curiosity question than anything else. Playing the game for some time now and perusing the boards; I have noticed an ever-increasing trend of 'player hatred' for GW. For all of you who complain about how boring, easy, not as good as (insert other game name here), stupid the other players are, etc etc..my question is this..why are you here? Assumably, you (or your parents) paid good money for the game, you spend your time playing it..why do that on something you absolutely hate and spend 99.9% of your time trashing it? It makes no sense to me really; please help me understand
SilentAssassin
well, I will never trash a game wich is the only reason why I am gaming.
GuildWars is just for me... ... just love it

Name me another online RPG that actually has balanced PVP.

Game is great. Majority of the community sucks. However I don't spend time complaining about it.

It is their duty to inform the rest of us that PvE doesn't matter, deserves no respect, and should be removed from the game.
Sadly, my ignore list only has 10 slots.

1. Guild Wars is a RPG based on skill, not time played
2. Anet nerfs things that a certain players has been exploiting for a long time, thus making him upset
3. Although the game is fun, the community can be frustrating, just like any other online game
4. They're either so bored and have absolutely no life, that they must play the game only to give them something to do
I know my frustrations with Guild Wars lie with the community, not the game. The good thing about Guild Wars is the ability to ignore people in groups or as individuals. I find that the game in itself is excellent and provides for a everlasting fun experience no matter how long or short your age or /age is.
Cador
Totally agree Raab, that having been said i still feel that most of the complainers this was their first RPG.
For me i started online gaming with Rome total war and the support there SUCKS i mean big time they do nothing say nothing and take away crucial features like ingame chat. I love guildwars LOVE it i feel a great respect for this game although tehre are scammers and for once i dont mind noobs i like tohelp them but scammers just piss me off but otehr then that i love it.

It seems to happen in most online games (I remember mass criticism on the forums of eve online when I played that) or for that matter anything, the most critical sectors are also the most vocal.

Silly people. The one's that complain about the game are the one's that suck at it. They try to take their frustrations out by bombarding the rest of us with their bs.

I stay because, in spite of the fact that I've 'retired' several character at various stages of their career (from low level to having finished the game) and currently have only one who's non-Ascended /one other not quite finished game (the other girls now go around helping ppl or opening up explorable areas), I absolutely adore the game. Yeah, the lower level missions/quests are sometimes mind-numbingly boring now. And there are the inevitable 12 yr old potty-mouths or absolute morons who do their best to ruin everyone's day. But in the end, I enjoy the game. Anet constantly tweaks skills, maps, gameplay to help keep it challenging. There are many many good folks to quest with (just have to be patient and find them ). And there is always a new skill set-up or build to experiment with.

Well I love this game and when I feel like another game I play Starcraft. After playing GW for like an hour I play SC and it feels like a completely different game! And when I don't feel like either I watch TV or play guitar

Fans tell one person. Critics tell fifty.
Not surprisingly, you can get a pretty negative vibe by only skimming the surface of forums like this. But then, the mere fact that they care that much at all does imply at least some sort of fondness for the game.
Oh, and did I mention it's awesome?

This so-called "hatred" is found in most games. Players, I think, play throught the game many times and find they get bored with it after a while and then all the want to to is have "the" best gear the game has. When they get it they then find they have nothing left to do and then the complaining for new changes begins. They start saying how things are unbalanced and blah blah blah and really, nothing can make these players happy again. This happened so many times in Diablo 2. The players would whine for new content, which Blizzard gave them, Then they would whine about the stuff they were given.
Basically you can't please all the players all of the time.
I have been playing GW for a while now. Parts of it do get boring but there is so many things you can do to keep it fun.
When I get bored I like to take my high level characters back to Ascalon and help out new players or players trying to quickly build a new type of character skill combo.
Be nice to people and it WILL be returned to you when you least expect it.

I stay because I love GW. The PvP is fun and the first couple of times through the PvE is fun. I hate farming and grinding and it's got a minimum of that and a maximum of skill and tactical-based action.

I stay because:
- for me, Guild Wars is fun
- I can farm
- I can kill random people in random arenas
- If I have the time to spare, I can attempt to lead and form a IWAY PUG in Heroes Ascent and attempt to acquire 1 or 2 fame in one or two hours time
- I can browse guildwarsguru.com and see what's the latest news in Guild Wars
- Quite a number of intelligent posters in guildwarsguru.com
- Guild Wars does not require a subscription fee
- I like the level 20 cap and the weapons' max damage cap

Lack of gaming experience in general, and the graphics.
Ok, so occasionally, I'll get into a group just to see how fast they'll fail, it's entertaining, and no, I don't do anything to sabotage the quest/mission, I actually pull my weight.
But all up, the graphics, I love the scenery.

I stay because there's nothing better out there right now. Innovation in gaming is at an all time low.
I complain so that they'll fix the things that are broken and make the game better. The core game is great and I really enjoyed it for a while, but there are some serious problems in some aspects of the game that can be fixed (like, say, elementalists). Arena Net won't fix them if they don't know about them.

The level of negativity was often staggering.
Now the board is mostly positive. There's still the poor buggers who've been run & twinked and never really played the game, but there's much less bitching, moaning, and wringing of hands than there used to be.
EDIT; dang, I forgot... I love GW because I'm a virtual tourist. I love seeing beautifully rendered new worlds, and exploring. WoW was too ugly, EQ2 was boring like watching paint dry... GW is great. I just want MORE - more detail, better graphics, more npc's, more areas to explore, etc and so forth.

I Play Becuase:
- I always come up with short-term goals..gotta meetem, Today got R3 =], Cant wait to get into more better groups =] (And mind you..most of is not from IWAY!)
- Never had community problems, infact the opposite, just ignore the idiots and they'll stop barking, always works for me =]
- Play it becuase I like it =]
- No Fee
- Factions..gotta save money for Faction..
What I'm not liking at the moment is:
- People arent buying much, so you have lods of stocks piling up.

I stay for the:
- Dwarven Ale.
- Watching Prince Rurik die over and over again by recompleting the mission.
- The occasional trolling of a Random Arena "Naked Dance" party.
- Opening trade windows with noobies and flashing 100 platinum at them.

Well I was in the same guild for 5 months, and made some really good friends. Thats why I stay. If my friends stopped playing I would be a 'hop in/out when I feel like it' person for GW. Probably would stay with them by finding what game they quit GW for and if that game fits me, start playing it.

It is one thing to end up questing with newbies. Everyone was a newb at one point or another so I can't hate on that. I hate ending up with a bunch of n00bs though(no, I don't use that word in game). I mean, when you have gotten to a certain point in the game you should understand a little about the aggro range and pulling. Those people who insist that you follow them, when they have made no effort to learn how to play the game truely do suck.
I can't play all day, so to have my play time wrecked by needless deaths and failed missions is not cool. I love the game, but I have had to use henchmen for more then 1/2 of it. For one reason, if my play time ends in failing to do what I set out to, I'd prefer it to be my own fault.

The biggest reason why I still play Guild Wars (since May) is the skills and how you can use them together with different profession combinations. IMO, it breaks so much RPG clichés when talking about character roles. For example Elementalist (mage) is not always just weak backline caster but can be also a strong frontline damage taker and good fighter.
UltimaXtreme
Guild Wars is the only balanced pvp, coordination based, teamwork, skill related game that has ever been made.
If your one of those people that want to "build up" your character, or get the "godliest" equip you can get ingame, Guild Wars is absolutley, hands-down not the game for you. I personally suggest world of warcraft or ragnarok online for those looking to grind through a game, slowly advancing your character to their max potential.

Not that I often don't feel like playing GW -- the game is still loads of fun for me and I'm not bored with it at all.

Thankfully, I've discovered an alternate way to make money.
Especially when factions comes out... Hoo boy, I'll be raking in millions.
I'd rather not release how to the public though, if too many people do this, it will be so much less effective.

I am a pure PVE player, I don't play PvP at all, but I still find the game to be a lot of fun. Why do I continue to play this game every night with lots of enthusiasm, after having completed just about all quests and missions with 5 characters?
Its not because I am farming to buy FOW armour, I don't want that, and I have all the money and green items that I need. I don't even bother selling any rare items I find to people, I just sell them to merchants since money is not important to me.
What keeps me coming back each night is the fun I am having with a very good friends group. We enjoy helping each other, and doing SF, Tombs UW and FOW together. We play with a lot of humor and everyone just has a good time.
If it weren't for these good friends, and I instead had to play each night with only henchies or with parties of unknown players I would have grown tired of this game a long time ago.

I've been known to scream and cry like a little girl because of this game. I've sworn at it and other players, I've been sworn at, I've had to deal with the most junk I never thought I'd ever have to put up with, and I suck at PvP.
I keep coming back because there is nothing better.

I really like the game. I don't post as much as I used to - and don't read the forums as much as I used to. But that's because I've now seen threads on just about every topic come and go on this forum.
There's going to be a natural tendency for folks posting to be the "squeaky wheel" so to speak. That's fine - folks can air their grievances. The have an issue and want to be heard.
Folks that are happy with the game are going to be less likely to feel the urge to post - they'd rather play.

Played it for 7 months now, 1000+ hours most from falling asleep, the game is fun and all. As said many times the people in the guild, Vent, GVG, HOH, and a bit farming keeps me on the game.
Big_Iron
I love the game and play as often as I can. When I can't, I come here for news and discussion. There are times though....errr. It's not the game's fault, it's the player. Last night I was in a PuG in Tombs. There was one jerk who was barking orders, being an ass and pretty much pissing off everyone while he stayed in the back and offered little to no real assistance. Of course, when we get to the end and kill all the bosses, he gets Victo's Bulwark and couldn't stop bragging about it, while I got squat even though I was working my butt off the whole time. I was ready to quit. I got up, took a break and came back a little later. I got into another PuG in Tombs. This was a great group. We played well together and had fun. Everyone was really nice. We got to the end and again, I got skunked. This time though, someone offered me a green since they had gotten two. What a nice thing to do. That's why I keep coming back.
