Guild Wars Tech Support woes
jpcooper43
So I've been a proud owner of Guildwars for 2 weeks now and I've had the crash to corrupt graphics bug exactly 5 minutes into gameplay needless to say I'm not pleased. So I've been following the channels and using NCSofts tech support and they've basically told me "Your PC is running too hot you need to install more fans". Does anyone else think this is a crock? I have an Alienware Extreme 5500 with a NVIdea Geoforce 6800GT videocard and an ASUS motherboard (I dont have the specs right here with me).
My PC runs at about 150 degrees farenheit has 3 fans and liquid cooling...
They're now saying "If you decide to install the extra fans and that doesnt work let us know"
I'm a relative PC noob so I'm pretty much at the "I WANT A REFUND"* stage so you more experienced gamers lemme know is this some BS they're pedaling and do you think its fair of them to ask me to incur more cost just to run their stupid game?
Thanks

*OOPS! Sorry, duly noted and will not do so again!

I would suggest that you contact Alienware technical support, as there could be a delicate problem with the hardware which they have provided.
I would also suggest anger management therapy.

I've been on the phone with Alienware's tech support pretty much every other day. Any suggestions on what to ask them? It's all about asking the right questions otherwise they probably get paid to make sure it sounds like everythings fine .

When it comes to big companies like Alienware, you have to force the issue. You're right, they get paid to act like their products are perfect, so you have to demand help with their faulty product.
Personally, I despise Alienware, but my personal opinion is not the issue here. Force the issue, if they continue to berate you, tell them that you'll take your custom elsewhere.
Rash, I know, but it's the only way to get through to some of these corporate entities.

I'm mid 20s on liquid. You seriously need to tell them your pump has stopped.

I'm betting that's what it is, it's based on a Koolance water cooling kit, and they get finicky a lot. Still good liquid cooling, just twitchy.
jpcooper43
Will do, one note though. When I touch the side of the casing it's cold like a fridge... still an issue you think?
Thanks

Something's busted, or you have it on Fahrenheit one...

This is why I would never purchase from Alienware, overpriced and lousy support. You really need to push the issue with them to get anything done.

Actually I'm a mac guy who won it in a banner ad contest... hence the noob-ness. So personally I like em

And it seems last time I was running GW, my cpu was at 57 °C still hot i gather... my video card was also running at 76°C. Bad?

The video cores temprature is a little warm, probably within an acceptable limit, but if the gpu dosn't have a fan or a water cooling attatchment on it, that could indeed be a source of trouble.

Sorry Noob, moment...
SO it looks like i have some fancy fan cooling called alien ice, not liquid cooling.. doh! Still shouldnt be cooking my cpu... RATS!

So I haven't done anything of note. I went back last night and updated my NVIdea drivers to the latest version (for the 3rd time), and then the new patch came through.... presto I played for an entire hour before having to got to bed! I'm not saying anything other than, I've updated and then rolled back my video drivers 3 times. Always with the same crash mysteriously. New Patch I can play suddenly. Sure textures are dropping out occaisionaly and characters are jumpy a bit but at this point I dont give a darn. Thanks for nothin GWTech Support, thanks Devs for fixing me "rare crash bug"... hopefully...

No offense, but they are on the same team. The devs made the game so they by default will have a vast amount of more knowledge on errors then tech support.
Tech support will just have a script with error numbers and solutions after them...if none of those solutions work they send it to the devs and they start the long process of hoping to fix the bug for the next update.
