I mean sure you get to play 1st, but after a month who's going to care? I'm just going to wander down to my local games store on the day of release & buy it then.... If I am missing something please let me know. |

Why on earth does this have to be so darn confusing. The Amazon release date is April 28th... the beta is on what, the 24th of March???!!!! So am I to cross my fingers and hope I get a key in time. Why does everything with this game come with so much controversy and speculation, over things that should be very simple to understand

So is it possible to preorder the Collectors Edition, and get the pre order box? thats the only question still remaining for me.
devils wraths
i emailed and asked and they said if you order any of the retail or collectors edtion you have to ask the shop if they give you the package thing

I would not mind doing so, but I would like to maybe pre-order the Collectors Edition instead. Is there a link thru you for this?

There is no word on the CE yet. Gaile Gray has said that they are trying to get one together but no information at this time. For those who truly want a CE, I would wait a bit before ordering. And if you still are not sure what version you want and have all ready pre-ordered, be sure to keep your receipt as some stores will allow for exchanges!

I just preordered
euro 38.50 incl shipping *calculates* = ~45-46 dollar
hmm.. was the cheapest I could find, and my first preorder ever. I want a box, I like having those in my game collection.

I pre-ordered with Amazon. It was cheap, $39.99 (USD) with free shipping. However, it gave me a ship date of April 28. I know, that's the "release date" according to Amazon and other vendors, but I thought this was for the Pre-release package that included the CD of artwork and so on that came out today. There was no mention of that. As far as I know, I could pop by my local Best Buy and get all that today.
Edited to add---> I went by my local Best Buy and they didn't have a Pre-order package. In fact, they only had two copies of Guild Wars and were still charging $49.99 (USD).

One thing I never quite understood - why doesn't ANet team up with NCSoft to allow pre-ordering of Factions online through PlayNC?
I mean, what you essentially need is just the CD-Key, since the client and everything else can be streamed to you. PlayNC already sells Prophecies' keys alone without the package, so they could do the same with Factions. It'd help greatly for people like me in the "neglected" regions (i.e. Asia and Oceania), since international shipping charges are often pretty damn expensive.

I live in Canada... which is part of the American Continent and as i was told we can pick up the preorder copy on Feb 28. Today, being Feb 28, i scurriedly went to EB games to pick up a preorder copy. Well, it turns out that they dont have any o_O and the sales people were so clueless as to what it is... How disappointing...

A pdf, not the actual reference card and tactical guide for euro players? No thanks.

I am not going to pre-order until they have pre-order for CE, not a "roll over" or other change it latter
Starting to get worried. Amazon.uk has CE avaiable for preorder but no mention of the kit.

So as of now i have no concerns for where and when i get my CE. My only concern left however is, with the pre-order, am i supposed to get a retail box with a key for the March event? Should i go and demand some substantial proof of my pre-order? LOL! enjoy.

Your pre order is susposed to have a package. I did my pre today but my package won't be here until next week. I would call and find out if i were u.
master_ranger_matt
I got mine at gamestop, the guys at best buy said they didn't have it so i went to gamestop, but i think they were supposed to give me like a disc or code and didn't. Maybee they give that stuff when the game is released.
GraceAlone
I called around to every gamestop, EB, babbage's, best buy, compusa, fry's electronic's, mom and pop shop I could find and nothing. My conversations were mostly:
me - "Do you have the GWF pre-release available?"
clerk - "...<chirp, chirp>...what?"
me "<repeat my question>"
clerk - "uh...umm...no...maybe in our shipment...tomorrow?"
I was under the impression that they would have a pre-release package just like the orignal campaign. Unless they teased me with a release date and then didn't ship any to the merchants

im just wondering, if you pre-order. will it be delievered to you before the whole "24-hour before release access" so you get the advantage, or will you have to wait for it to be delievered then you can play, whether or not you get the "pre-order" benefit? or will you have to opt for the "next-day delivery".
if you don't get it, im jsut asking is will you get the access to the game (delivered to you, because some stores don't give a "pick-up at the store" option) before release date so you get all the benefits?

the site I preordered at, has no description of this game. but it has the collector's edition of factions + descriptions what's in it, but I don't take those serious since Anet hasn't confirmed anything about it. for the interested:
http://www.gcshop.nl/details.php?id=1835
I have the non collector's edition, and they emailed me that it is a box, but they didn't answer my question about the 24 hour before release bonus >.>

I went to two different GameStop locations last night and it was quite confusing for me. I went in there with the idea that they would have pre-order packages or at the very least know when they would be in. Because as far as we all knew, they would be out on 2/28. Instead, I felt like an idiot, thinking I had somehow gotten the dates wrong. Because their systems only have 1 GW package listed. When they read the description to me, it was exactly the same as the pre-order package's description. But here's the kicker, they have that package listed with the release date of 4/28. 2 months later and here I am, looking to pick it up now. Thus, I felt like an idiot and I wondered how ANet planned on releasing the final game in Q2 with a release schedule like that...
Well, the package in GameStop's system left every employee I talked to thinking it was the actual game package, despite the description that mirrors the pre-order package's. I even asked one of the managers if he had any information on the CE and he then tried to explain that expansions don't usually have a CE. I kindly let him know he was wrong about Factions.
So, since I was then convinced that I was wrong about the release date, I put down $5 to pre-order what I thought was the pre-order which I now expected in 2 months.
I hope you're confused at this point too.
So where am I going with this? For the love of God, ANet. Make sure retailers have all the information they need and stop leaving room for error. There is no reason why you can't release the most basic of details for the pre-order package, the standard edition, and the collector's edition to all retailers at the same time. I don't need to know the complete details of each, but if you can't make sure they get what few facts they have straight, you're simply confusing the hell out of your customers... And yes, that's bad for business.
Now I have to make sure my pre-order will net me an actual pre-order package and that I'll actually be able to put it towards the CE. This is a far bigger headache than it ever needed to be. Thank you.

As you can see Variable, I had the same problem. I think I'm going to contact support and see if they can give me any additional info. It is must frustrating indeed.
Loralai
The entirety of this thread has brought me to my decision of simply forgoing the pre-order, and waiting for the real deal.

I myself being new to the Guild Wars world decided to pre-order Chapter 2 when I bought Ch.1 ( only about 1-2) months ago. The clerk at Gamestop informed me of the upcoming release and I figured what the hell, I'm already buying a game I may or may not like but gameplay is free. Needless to say I love GW and look forward to the Ch.2 release. After being confused to hell and back by the 28th release of the pre packages posts I called on the 26th which was a Monday and the next day was Fat Tuesday where I am at (Mardi Gras) and most things are closed on the day Mardi Gras falls on, which in this case would have been the 28th. Needless to say I was a bit distressed on the 27th because I didn't want anyone getting that big of a jump on me seeing as I am STILL learning tactics, builds that suit me, etc. I called and the clerk had no idea about the date of the pre. Regardless I am still content to wait. Though I am sure most of you vets are getting rather axious.
Dr Ripley
So... does the so-called 'pre-order package' advertised in the first post even exist? From reading this thread, and an embarassing personal experience rivalling the Variable's yesterday, it appears that it doesn't. As far as I can see, the only product available at the moment is a basic pre-order that any other game would have that won't be shipped until the release date (or after...). I'm not worried about the March event (anyone reading or posting here will have access to that already), but the whole '24 hour advance' idea currently sounds like a pipe dream. Also, if there was a shipping delay, why hasn't Anet or NCsoft spoken up? I'm also curious as to why none of the retailers mentioned on their site has a clue about this package. Not knowing why it hasn't arrived yet is one thing, but not having knowledge of the product at all is ridiculous.
ump
Maybe this is a silly question, but does the prerelease package actually get you a copy of the game? The reason I ask is because Best Buy is advertising for $39.99 which is $10 cheaper than I expected the actual game to be. Plus you get a few extra gimmicks like exclusive items for new professions and the chance to play it a day earlier than most. It seems like a good deal, but I usually don't preorder anything, which is the reason for my original question.

basically, unless the pre-order box itself is displayed and with info on its content is on the online retailer's website. Everything advertised so far, is the regular full game and not the preorder package.
Anyone who preorders before this, will generally have to ask/remind the retailer (online or instore) if their order will include the pre-order package itself or like some ppl experienced for ch.1, they did not receive the preorder package at all...

Well I got a response from support:
Basically retailers should have a pre-release package for us to physically have in hand, but of the 15-20 shops I've called noone has one, or even knows what I'm talking about.
