i realise that the Guild wars final release pack is on store shelves on 28th of april, and preorder people can play with their code on 27th. But some people on mIRC have been saying that preorder people dont need to buy the final release pack for a week after its on shelves, some people say we will require it on 28th. www.guildwars.com isnt very informative on this matter so does anyone know anything?

Dreamsmith corrected below, there is one early day, and then you have access on opening day. So, there are two days you get access without the retail key, but no grace after the opening day.

Great, just in time for finals. Like it's not bad enough that I put off all my homework this weekend and am now frantically trying to finish it all. On top of that, the fact that GWGuru has such a wonderful website isn't helping the cause!

So i will need to buy the final release pack n the 28th, but not on the 26th and 27th?

Correct, as far as I understand it.

Wow, 2 days is quite a headstart, i made it to level 10 in two days this beta!

Yeah, but in a week you'll catch up to them at level 20 anyways.

With the low level cap, by the end of the first month nearly everyone will have at least one character at lvl 20 if not more. A head start of 2 days isn't that much with a situation like this.

Really? Someone needs to inform Gaile Gray, then. She's been telling people there's a 24 hour grace period. She also said you get in a day early, not two days.

Those who preorder the game will be allowed to play as of Midnight on the 27th. The period of time that the Early Access will be offered is 48 hours. This means that those who preorder will have all of the 27th and all of the 28th to play. At 11:59 p.m. on April 28th, the access for those who preordered the game will be closed, and only those who have an actual retail copy will be able to play.
So, on the 27th, you'll need a pre-order key. On the 28th, you'll be able to play with either a pre-order or retail key. On the 29th and after, you'll need a retail key.

For the transition, I am assuming you would install the full release client from the CD, plug in the release key and then access your account via your email and password? (Just so there is no suprises)

I wonder if the release client will overwrite the beta client or swap it out?

If the gw.exe file is the same as on the CD, it'll likely leave it alone. The part I see changing is the gw.dat file since there will be tons of content on the CD that you may not have gotten in the first 24-48 hours and it'll be faster getting it from the CD than from streaming it.

People that have the pre-order beta keys can play on the 27th and the 28th. The game will hit shelves on the 28th which means there is a special bonus day for Pre-order people as well as a 1 day grace period.

and when that 1 day grace period end in the words of Gaile Gray

At 11:59 p.m. on April 28th, the access for those who preordered the game will be closed, and only those who have an actual retail copy will be able to play.

Here's Hopin EBGames gets it in on the 28th then! When I pre-ordered Nexus from them, I didn't actually get it for two days after its set release date.

To play guild wars for two days, and then be cut off once more would be more of a heartache than I really want to deal with. I'm already eager for the next beta event, and its still like 3 weeks away.

You guys arnt realizing the importance of two days, because of this, those of us that are beta vetrans will always be one step ahead of the newbies, and thus our characters will live a rather unharrased life tell 20, and everyone that makes it to 20 wont be a newb anymore anyway

I doubt it. I like to get every quest. I like to map every last inch of terrain. I like to take copious notes about where to find everything and everyone and what quests or wares they offer, or anything interesting they might have to say. I like to fiddle around, look for secrets, stop and smell the roses. Some of the newbies will probably be finishing the last mission before I get out of the Ruins of Ascalon.

I probably could finish all the missions and get to level 20 in a couple of days, but in fact I'm unlikely to do either within the first month. It'll be nice to play when it's not a 3 day event. It'll be nice not to have to rush, to squeeze everything into so short a time... to have all the time in the world to do things...

I agree with that completly, Im exactly the same. I got to lvl 9 in Pre Sear...but I have a freind who goes pretty fast, so my first chara is gonna be a rush for 20, and then ill take the time to explore everything

Well i guess i go at medium pace, i did all the missions once with people and once with the 'silent friends' henchman, so i made it to Lions Arch and level 13 in the march BWE, i also saw no point staying in pre-searing for too long and went in the academy at level 4 upon exploring all of Pre-searing, i guess i didnt want to get to know and love it too much because of the shock the searing has, get to attached to pre-searing then you'll cry when the searing happens!

Hehe, I know quite a few people who still act like huge beginners even at level 20. I might actually even be one of them.

But like Dreamsmith said.. the level grind for GW is so little that sure.. you'd have two days of being at the top. After those first couple of days though, people will be catching up extremely fast. You'll be on an equalized field pretty soon, and well.. the only telling thing that will make anyone stand out is either combat skill (example, Fianna), or.. as I've been seeing in the BWEs, forum fame. You'd be surprised at how many famous forum people I've seen around..

It was my understanding, that on release day all characters will be reset. A clean slate. The only thing that will remain of the Beta characters is the option to re-use their names. That includes any guilds that were created during Beta also. This was to give new players a even chance to play the game without having all these Uber Toons running around. Please do correct me if my information is wrong. Belive me, I will miss my W/R if this reset happens, but also, it will give me a chance to build her the way the Gods intended. Without her current (minor) flaws.

Well, you have to work your way through the missions, eventually once you do Nolani Academy, you unlock The Shiverpeaks (i think thats there name) there work through the 3/4 missions till it takes you to Gates of Kryta (very hard mission) once you complete the Gates of Kryta it takes you to Lions Arch, i hope this helps. Also i reccomend being atleast level 12 or higher when trying to beat Gates of Kryta, I was level 13 and failed atleast 10 times.

Yeah, thats the idea of Beta's work out what cahracter build you want and what flaws come up, so that when Release comes you know what flaws to look out for.

This brings up an interesting issue.

Whatever happened to ArenaNet's claim that the game would be shipped and/or launched WORLDWIDE on the same day?

it is possible they will not make it and leave some people scrambling for a net store that will get it to them

Ruins of Surmia, complete ruins of surmia and it will take you to nolani academy, after that its yaks Bend, then something pass, then frozen gate, that will take you to gates of kryta after gates of kryta its Lions arch. Hope that helps

Really its a breeze from Ruins of surmia to Gates of Kryta is very easy, but then it gets very hard.

Before the Ruins of Surmia, you get dropped off at an outpost. I believe it is called Frontier Gate. There are two NPCs here; a religious nutjob and an officer-type. Talk to the officer and he'll tell you Rurik has headed to the Ruins of Surmia, which lies north-west of Frontier Gate. Simply pick up some henchmen if you aren't confident in your soloing ability, and head out. You'll find signposts along the way, if you ever get lost.

If you ever get stuck, it's because you haven't talked to the NPCs.
