W/Mo Ettin Rune Farming Build (With Video)
spellfall
Well, seeing as runes are as popular as ever and an essential part to any full Guild Wars Experience, people need to farm them. This build will help lower the price of said runes and keep the economy rolling.
Want some "free" runes? Of course you do!
Got a W/Mo sitting around collecting Dust? Of course you do!
Wonder what the use of Beetletun is? Of course you do!
Well congratulations because now you have something to do in order to answer ALL 3 QUESTIONS!!!
Ok, enough of the fun introduction to grab your attention, here's where we buckle down.
The Attribute Points
Healing - 10
Strength - 12 (or higher)
Axe Mastery - 11 (or higher)
I added in these (or higher) notes because I use the cheapest runes possible because I am cheap. I have one minor axe mastery and one minor strength. You can add a Strength bonus helmet if that is your style. I personally have a Tactics Helmet, yeah I know not too smart, but hey, you get an animal head for a helmet - Ascalon 15k
The Armor
Ascalon Helmet of Minor Vigor (+1 Tactics/+ 30 health)
Gladiator's Hauberk of Minor Axe Mastery (+1 Axe Mastery)
Gladiator's Gauntlet of Minor Strength (+1 Strength)
Gladiator's Leggings of Minor Absorption (+1 Absorption)
Gladiator's Boots of Minor Tactics (+1 Tactics)
As I mentioned above, I have the cheapest because I am cheap and I am not a fan of minus HP for anything except a 55 monk.
The Skills
Cyclone Axe
Cleave {E}
Executioner's Strike
Penetrating Blow
Dolyak Signet
Vigorous Spirit
Live Vicariously
Sprint
Reasons and Skill Detail
Cyclone Axe - For 5 energy, attack for +10 to all nearby enemies. This is mainly used to gain health when Live Vicariously and/or Vigorous Spirit are on. With both on you gain +20health with each attack. Health +20 times 3-4 Ettins is +60 - +80 health.
Cleave {E} - For only 4 adrenaline you attack for +25 damage. This skill is really only for damage dealing so you aren't sitting at a stalemate with the Ettins.
Executioner's Strike - For 8 adrenaline you attack for +32 damage. Same reason as Cleave {E}.
Penetrating Blow - For 4 adrenaline attack for +16 damage and an extra 20% armor penetration.
Dolyak Signet - For 18 seconds you gain +34 armor. With a 20 second recharge time you almost always have +34 armor, not a bad addition to any armor.
Vigorous Spirit - For 30 seconds, your attacks not only deal damage but you gain +10 health.
Live Vicariously - For a one time cost of 5 energy and minus one energy regeneration, you always gain +10 health with each attack.
Sprint - For 13 seconds you move 25% faster. Only needed for running past the Tengus or the Mergoyles because those are not easy to farm and rarely drop anything good
{Note} Items in bold are subject to the amount of points you have in that particular attribute.
Weapons
Sundering Chaos Axe of Fortitude
Slashing Damage 6-28 (Requires 8 Axe Mastery)
Damage +12% (Health over 50%)
Armor Penetration +10% (9% Chance)
Health +28
Damage +20% (Customized for Felicia Evelina)
Eternal Shield
Armor 16 (Requires 12 Strength)
Shadow Shield - Soon to get shield.
Armor 16 (Requires 12 Strength)
Received Damage -2 (While Enchanted)
Any axe and shield will work, I personally use axe but if you want to modify this build for a Sword or Hammer, good luck.
Now the video - Ettin Video
In this video I farmed a Superior Rune of Fast Casting. Also all of the Hardened Humps, Ettin Hides, non-rune bearing Ettin's Pauldrens, and various bows, swords, or wands, yield a multitude of material possibilities. They hand out a multitude of crafting materials, able to be sold to various players or the material trader. Not to mention the underlying effect of gold dropping. I can farm about 200-300 gold per run.
To explain the ending to my video, the point is you zone at North Kyrta Providence, and return to Nebo Terrace to farm the Ettins "backwards." This method I adopted so I did not have to run past the Mergoyles and Tengus again. If you encounter the warrior boss, don’t despair, just target the boss and hack away.
You may be asking yourself why I am writing this much about a topic as personal as a build or a farming location. I am telling you this for the reason to help lower the rune price and stop those "Make me a Ettin farming build - I use axe and/or sword." In any event, I hope you have luck in farming your Ettin runes and any questions please leave here and I will address. Also, no flaming the video, I made it in 30 minutes and threw some music on it for good times. So good luck and have fun.

A full Ettin guide has already been posted and explained throughly by Amerstdam.

So, because someone has posted something, no one forever and always may explain their unique build and ideas? So why don't we close down the 'posting' part of this forum and make it a "Read-Only" forum. Would that appease you?

yah expecially since that guy's was a sword build.
dont feel no pain
i would scare the hell out of every with my build (see me take down 3 ettins in under 20 secs) but my pc is screwed and the other is to slow to make a decent vid

Thanks for that point, and sorry I kind of yelled at you XzyluM, I was just testy and...I'm really not a bad person
Thanks for your comments.

^ Btw, About Amsterdam's thread; although his build was a sword one, if you looked through the pages, there were a variety of axe builds. That's where I got my idea.
Good stuff; I use another build that's probably just as efficient.
The main problem is that as of now, the ettins drop less and less. And when I do get a drop, it's usually purple. So, as a result, people tend to ignore these threads.
Now we need new creatures to farm.. *sigh*
EDIT: So, you don't use Disrupting Chop? The Healing Sigs annoy me.

ya. without some way to stop a targets heal sigs... killing the a mob will be way slower... using eviscerate+Executioners+ Cyclone, and interrupting the sig of your target, you will take down single targets of a mob so much faster...making overall mob take down faster and efficient... ya.

Didn't mean to sound rude, was just letting you know a guide was posted already. Nonetheless, you can never have enough different builds and tactics. shadow, while Amersterdam did post a sword build, there a quite a few builds that was posted throughout the thread. Might be good if someone wants to try a few more builds. Personally, I like the W/Me build. While it is possible to interrupt their healing sigs, I find it easier to just dish out more damage. They love to use that heal sig rapidly.

Hmmm was it conjure flame & frenzy ftw?
that worked great when I tried ettins for a change, but I havent done an ettin run in awhile now, might be time to run back out there again.
Good axe build though spellfall, and as long as you hit the ettin with Exec Strike during the heal sig, the extra dmg fom the -40 armor will probably be more than his healing.
